Department The Jesuit Center Job Purpose
The Director of the Jesuit Center is the Mission Officer for faculty and staff of the University. This position provides mission related information to the Board, University President, Vice Presidents, Provost, Deans, Faculty Senate, Department Chairs, and other leaders. The Director delivers regular presentations articulating the University's mission as it relates to all aspects of the day-to-day work of the University. The Director provides direction and leadership to the Jesuit Center, organizes, and conducts educational programs and activities that advance its mission.
Essential Duties
Assist the Vice President for Mission and Ministry and the President regarding the University's mission and mission related initiatives, programs and publications
Develop presentations and present mission related information in public and academic settings
Assumes responsibility, in concert with the Vice President for Mission and Ministry, for implementing the University's Jesuit mission and identity
Develop, implement and oversee the University's faculty/staff engagement programs relating to the Jesuit or higher educational mission working directly with the faculty and staff and other related constituents
Work with the Provost in broadening and deepening connections with faculty with regard to strengthening the connection between the University's mission and academic affairs (faculty hiring, tenure and promotion criteria, support of research, course content, pedagogy, service of faith and promotion of justice, etc.)
Assume ultimate responsibility for administering all University policies regarding Center's budgeting and financial reporting, hiring of staff, annual performance reviews, administration of endowment funds, and application for and administration of external grants
Schedule major speakers to address the University community on matters related to the Center's mission
Meet regularly with University administrators and departments to build liaisons and explore possible areas of collaboration
Direct pilgrimages for faculty and staff, as well as for members of the Board of Trustees
Serve as the University liaison for the Ignatian Colleagues Program (ICP)
Additional Skills Required
Extensive knowledge of Jesuit pedagogy, Ignatian spirituality, and the Catholic intellectual tradition
Broad understanding of current trends in Jesuit and Catholic higher education
Experience fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment that encourages collegiality, teamwork, and relationship building both within the Center and across the University community
Appreciation for and alignment with the University's mission, which includes a strong service ethic and a commitment to academic excellence and student-centered learning within the Jesuit tradition
Strong communication, interpersonal and motivational skills
Must be able to deal directly with staff and faculty
Training in spiritual direction and retreat programming
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Strong leadership skills including effectiveness in facilitation and ability to form consensus
Superior organizational skills and ability to manage time effectively
Must be able to support the University's commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable, and inclusive culture
Must be able to respect, support and contribute to the University's Catholic and Jesuit mission
