JOB GOAL:

Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Teaching and Learning shall assume responsibility for the planning, development, coordination, and management of all general education programs, services, budgets, and personnel to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations governing the delivery of instruction to students.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Possess a Professional Educator License (PEL) with General Administrative and Principal Endorsement and the completion of the Teacher Evaluation Modules.

  • Minimum of three to five years of successful administrative and leadership experience. Public school experience preferred.

  • Prior experience as a Principal preferred.

  • Master's Degree in an area relevant to curriculum with content-specific methods coursework preferred.

  • Significant understanding of all aspects of instruction, curriculum, and assessment.

  • Prior experience in developing and implementing professional development which address staff needs.

  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions in a manner consistent with district vision, mission, and goals.

  • Understanding technology and its application as it relates to instruction.

  • Experience in supervising and evaluating employees.

  • Access to a vehicle for travel to school buildings as needed.

  • Valid driver's license and vehicle insurance.

MAJOR DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to coordinate and maintain State and Federal Grants.

  • Ability to communicate written and orally in great detail with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Strong organizational skills and capacity for team building.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a highly transactional, fast-paced environment.

  • Effectively communicate (verbal and written) with parents, colleagues, administration, and all other members of the educational community.

  • Effectively collaborate with other district departments, Special Ed, ELL, etc.

  • Knowledge of national, state, and local educational goals and objectives.

  • Knowledge of learning theory, program planning, curriculum development, and management of instructional programs.

  • Ability to plan and present information to a variety of audiences.

  • Knowledge of current educational trends, methods, research, and technology.

  • Ability to collect, analyze, and interpret data and the ability to work collaboratively with others.

  • Overseeing state and local testing assessments.

  • Facilitate the district curriculum, instruction, and school improvement efforts, planning, and implementation of the staff development activities.

  • Collaborate with District Administrators for Educational Programs and Assessments in the development, implementation, and articulation of the curriculum and instructional programs.

  • Chair District Professional Development Committee and the calendar development.

  • Coordinate and monitor the new teacher induction and mentoring program.

  • Coordinate with Principals the assignment of K-8 general education and fine arts teachers (music, art, physical education).

  • Facilitate the annual curriculum review cycle.

  • Supervise District Instructional Coaches.

  • As requested by the Superintendent, organize Board presentations.

  • Report on the status of curriculum and instructional programs and services, including assessment and evaluation information, at the request of the Superintendent.

  • Maintain a close working relationship with school-based and District-level administrators to ensure information exchange, coordination of efforts, and general support for the decision-making process.

  • Provide leadership for the articulation among all instructional levels.

  • Attend meetings and conferences that promote professional growth and benefit the District.

  • Direct the overall development, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of all District curriculum and instructional support programs.

  • Supervise the development and implementation of District performance standards.

  • Oversee the summer school program.

  • Provide leadership in identifying and acquiring appropriate teaching materials, textbooks, and equipment.

  • Serve as liaison between the State Board of Education and the Administrators regarding the instructional staff of the District in communicating and planning program requirements of state statutes, and mandated federal programs.

  • Assist in the development of the Curriculum and Instructional Services budget.

  • Other tasks as may be deemed appropriate and necessary by the Superintendent.
