Salary: $8,313 - $12,796 ($8,890 - $13,686 PERS)

We are seeking a Director of Systems Capacity & Improvement to join our Office of Education, Innovation, and Improvement at the Oregon Department of Education. This is a management service position.

This role is a hybrid of remote work and will need to report to the office when business or operational needs are dependent on onsite activities. Remote work is embraced to the fullest extent possible without interfering with business.

What you will do!

The primary purpose of this position is to lead program teams within the agency's Student Success efforts (HB3427).

Typical duties include:

  • Offering strategic guidance to the Assistant Superintendent for Education Innovation and Improvement (EII) and managing daily projects and tasks within EII.

  • Supporting district and school improvement programs by setting goals, creating policies, and managing budgets according to HB3427.

  • Developing team and program goals that align with the agency's mission, vision, and state and federal education laws.

  • Supervising the Systems Capacity & Improvement team.

Minimum Qualifications (Need to Have)

Seven years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience; OR four years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field.

Minimum qualifications must be met to qualify for this position.

Desired Attributes (Nice to Have):

  • Administrative leadership experience in an education setting, preferably a school district, public charter school, education service district or state education agency.

  • Experience with leading efforts to improve schools or school districts with a goal of increasing academic achievement for students, including reducing achievement and opportunity gaps between student groups.

  • Ability to perform complex tasks and prioritize multiple projects, as well as organize and complete simultaneous tasks.

  • Experience working with culturally and individually diverse groups, including sovereign nations, and skill in soliciting and valuing diverse viewpoints.

  • Experience in policy development, implementation, and legislative protocols and processes.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including public speaking, outstanding interpersonal and employee coaching skills, and the ability to pass a criminal record check.

  • Experience working with other state agencies such as the Teacher Standards and Practices Commission, the Higher Education Coordinating Commission and partners such as the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators, Oregon School Board Association, Oregon Education Association, Oregon Education Service Districts, Stand for Children, Chalkboard project is preferred but not required.

  • A Master's Degree or higher in education, administration, leadership, or closely related field is preferred but not required.

  • Salary Range: The range listed is the Non-PERS salary range. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) participating members will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay a 6% employee contribution to PERS.
