JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for assuming administrative responsibility for all areas/functions of the Perioperative
Services Division on a 24/7 basis including, but not limited to, pre-procedure testing, Pre-Op, Main OR,
Ambulatory and Minor Surgery, PACU, GI Lab, Sterile Processing, and Central Service.
Develops policies and procedures as well as the quality improvement programs for areas of responsibility.
Develops the capital and operating budgets for Perioperative Services Division. Ensures areas of
responsibility are appropriately staffed, including interviewing and selection of new employees,
promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee
concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Ensures safe staffing needs are consistently met using workload measurement data and clinical
judgment.
2.Develops budgets for assigned areas and ensures cost effective and cost-efficient use of resources.
3.Provides direction and input regarding equipment/supply needs, renovations, and environmental
issues in preparation of operating and capital equipment budgets.
4.Leads departmental strategic planning and policy-making and engages in decision-making through
membership on hospital and departmental committees.
5.Promotes communication among patients, families, hospital departments, and medical staff to
optimize the interdependence of all team members.
6.Coordinates the needs of physicians and acts as liaison between the medical staff and the nursing
staff by serving as a problem solver and mediator.
7.Supports the development and sustainment of Shared Governance and its functions related to
Nursing Evaluation, Peer Review, Policy/Procedures, and Standards of Nursing Practice.
8.Serves as a clinical resource contact for patients, families, nursing staff, other health care members
and external agencies.
9.Ensures unit orientation programs meet learning needs of new employees and prepare staff to fulfill
requirements of position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
Subject to work long, irregular hours including mental, emotional and physical stress.
Must be able to push, pull and lift weight up 50 pounds; be able to endure prolonged, extensive and
considerable standing, walking, stooping and reaching.
Must be fluent in English-speaking, reading and writing (must exhibit legible penmanship).
Must possess normal to near normal vision, hearing and manual dexterity.
Must be able to transport and move/position patients.

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration or another related field
required. Master's degree strongly preferred.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Five (5) years of nursing experience and three (3) years of progressive management/leadership
experience is required.
MINIMUM LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED BY LAW:
If a Registered Nurse, must have current License in the State of Georgia as a Registered Nurse or
NLC/eNLC Multistate License.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred. Certification
in area of clinical specialty is desired.
