The Arizona Department of Education (ADE) Support and Innovation Section is seeking a Director of Support and Innovation.


  • Develop and coordinate technical assistance, monitoring, and professional development in accordance with state and federal requirements for Local Education Agencies (LEAs) with Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) and Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) schools in accordance with Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) as well as schools in improvement status under the A-F Accountability System

  • Supervise Education Program Specialists to ensure high quality technical assistance and monitoring are provided to LEAs and schools in improvement status

  • Lead, develop and supervise professional learning activities for LEAs and schools in improvement including but not limited to conducting Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and developing and implementing Integrated Action Plans (IAPs) and leadership development

  • Support on-site visits with LEA and school leadership in developing, implementing and monitoring IAPs and processes that are systematic, systemic, and sustainable and will lead to increases in student achievement

  • Support and monitor all school improvement related grant activities in accordance with state and federal... requirements

  • Collaborate with other units and divisions to support and ensure high quality coordinated service to LEAs and schools

  • In-state travel required

  • Demonstrate a deep knowledge of school improvement and turnaround as well as, underlying research and best practices, particularly in improving curriculum, instruction, assessment, and facilitating solutions and breakthroughs

  • Arizona Department of Education structure and inter-agency responsibilities

  • State and federal laws, including funding regulations pertaining to ESSA and the A-F Accountability System

  • Title I Federal Programs

  • Individuals with Desabilities Education Act (IDEA)

  • Collecting, analyzing, validating, interpreting, and reporting quantitative and qualitative data

  • Development and implementation of effective district and school continuous improvement plans

  • Use of technology to organize data and display to allow for decision-making regarding curriculum, instruction, and assessments

  • Education administration

  • Budget development and analysis

  • Best practices in teacher and leader training and coaching methods

  • Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) and Response To Intervention (RTI) knowledge of teaching methods that positively impact students in schools designated in school improvement

  • Applicants must have taught or administered a school improvement program

  • Position requires supervisory experience (graduates of ADE's Aspiring Leaders program may be considered in lieu of supervisory experience)

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, and/or Special Education required

Preference will be given to those applicants with:

  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, and/or Special Education

  • Superintendent and/or Principal Certification

  • Experience in evaluating programs-data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting

  • Experience working in collaborative settings; Instructional and/or leadership trainings

  • Position requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver's license appropriate to the assignment.
