Function: The Director of Supply Chain is responsible for the strategic direction of sourcing and purchasing essential food and supplies for the Community Food Bank (CFB). Duties include managing relationships with suppliers, negotiating supply and distribution contracts and developing inventory controls to identify demand for new food and supplies in collaboration with various departments. They will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for improving the efficiency of the supply chain and for ensuring that all vendors and partners are meeting their performance objectives. The Supply Chain Director will also ensure that the supply chain is cost-effective, reliable, and compliant with all applicable laws and regulations. This role requires knowledge of large-scale purchasing methods related to diversified commodities, as well as government, non-profit, and contractual requirements and regulations related to procurement of commodities and services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the purchase, sourcing, and distribution of food and supplies.

  • Develops procurement and sourcing strategies and policies that are innovative, cost-effective, timely, and beneficial for our service area and for our organization.

  • Establishes inventory management goals and objectives based on operational need and financial constraints.

  • Manages and directs the inventory across the organization.

  • Oversees and manages the systems that track shipments, inventory, and the supply of goods.

  • Directs the sourcing from and the engagement of reliable suppliers and vendors. Builds and maintains long-term relationships with vendors and suppliers.

  • Directs and manages the sourcing process including food from grocery donors, farmers and other large-scale donors.

  • Negotiates with suppliers and vendors to secure advantageous terms.

  • Creates a purchase order system; organizes and confirms delivery of goods and services.

  • Directs the preparation of comprehensive reports concerning quality, quantity, costs, standardization, value analysis, and price trends for food and materials.

  • Assists in preparing and executing the annual capital expense budget.

  • Supervises the procurement and sourcing functions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of directing large-scale purchasing operations or related government procurement activities.

  • Knowledge of leading change management and strategy development.

  • Knowledge of the functions, organization, and administration of non-profit organizations.

  • Demonstrated commitment to CFB's mission.

  • Ability to conduct negotiations and contract management.

  • Ability to travel across CFB's 5-county service area and to State, Regional and National conferences/meetings.

  • High level of interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations.

  • Highly organized with a proven track record of efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to make sound data-driven decisions.

  • Ability to work with people from diverse economic, social, and political backgrounds.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Eight (8) years of experience in purchasing, sourcing, supplier performance management, supply chain, and inventory strategies & practices, including demonstrated competency in strategic sourcing.

  • Five (5) years of experience leading teams and managing staff.

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Purchasing or a related field.

  • Experience with complex Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).

  • For company insurance purposes, at least 21 years of age; possess a current Arizona Driver's License with a safe driving record.

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a nonprofit organization at staff or Board levels.

  • Experience in organizational development/management.

  • Experience working at or partnering with a food bank(s).

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Physical Requirements:

  • Light Work ability to exert 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
