SUNY Geneseo seeks a full-time, 12-month per-year, Director of Student Volunteerism and Community Engagement.

The Director will serve under the general supervision of the Dean of Students, and the Assistant Dean of Students for Leadership and Service. The Director will serve as part of a highly successful, multifaceted experiential-learning-based student affairs team, known as the Center for Community, who support the undergraduate liberal arts curriculum emphasizing learning outside the classroom.

The primary responsibilities of the position are to:

  • serve as a resource for individuals and student organizations interested in volunteering and community service;
  • serve as a resource for community agencies and organizations needing volunteers;
  • develop and manage volunteers programs for the campus community including, but not limited to, Knights First day of Service/Service Saturday for new students in September, Geneseo Cares Day of Service in October, Adopt-A-Family in November/December, Geneseo Goes to Town/Spring into Service Day in April, Geneseo Give Back in April, and three college-wide blood drives (November, February & April);
  • sponsor and host Volunteer Fairs each semester;
  • supervise student Community Service Assistants who serve as liaisons for student organizations; publicity, promotion and marketing of service programs via social; external community agencies; website maintenance and upkeep; and extended service programs, Food Pantry/Food Security Advocates, R-Kids, HEROS, youth mentoring, and veterans and seniors;
  • assist in the management of the Geneseo Opportunities for Leadership Development (GOLD) Program;
  • develop and teach GOLD workshops on volunteerism and service, and civic engagement and social justice;
  • coordinate the Caryn Camiolo Memorial Social Justice Internship;
  • assist in the application for recognition in local, state, and national awards;
  • coordinate the Advisory Committee on Volunteer and Service Programs, and recognition and awards for service;
  • serve as a resource for faculty developing service learning courses, including publications and other resources, and assisting instructors with community volunteer agency sites.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree, by time of appointment

  • Skills related to volunteer management, group and project facilitation

  • Experience in college/community collaborations

  • Demonstration of a commitment to diversity and inclusion as well as the ability to establish and maintain positive learning environments for students and collaborative relationships with colleagues

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in higher education/student personnel, public administration, social work, or related field, by time of appointment

  • At least one year of professional experience working with civic and community engagement programs in higher education

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Knowledge of and ability to use social media to promote the Center for Community's programs and services.

  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

  • Evidence of a collegial /collaborative leadership style.

  • A strong commitment to student learning both inside and outside the classroom.

  • Experience promoting unity through diversity and an understanding of and commitment to the mission of a residential liberal arts college.

  • Experience in community outreach, civic engagement, networking, and using social media for marketing purposes.

  • Experience utilizing Banner or other student management software.

  • Experience with KnightSource or other purchasing management software.

  • Experience with PC and Apple software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

License/Certification Other Skills Required Supervision Received

The Director of Student Volunteerism and Community Engagement is responsible for managing individual programs but works collaboratively with the engagement and service team within the Center for Community on campus-wide and community initiatives. The Director will serve under the general supervision of the Dean of Students, and the Assistant Dean of Students for Leadership and Service.
