Director Of Student Success

The Speaker Lab Nashville , TN 37201

Posted 1 week ago

The Speaker Lab is looking for a full-time Director of Student Success to help ensure our students are successful and were providing a world-class experience for those in our programs.

Everything we do at The Speaker Lab is centered around helping our students be successful as speakers. We need a top-notch educator, coach, and leader to ensure our programs are the most effective at getting our students results and doing it fast.

This position will be responsible for three distinct areas all underneath the student success and education umbrella.

  1. Student Success Strategy
  2. Student Success Team Leader
  3. Student Success Operator/Coach

Student Success Strategy

You will work closely with our founder/CEO, Grant Baldwin and the rest of the leadership team to determine the best ways to ensure success for the students of our programs at The Speaker Lab.

You are always looking for large changes and small tweaks to improve things. You are customer obsessed and pay close attention to every detail of the customer experience looking for internal inefficiencies and external improvements to increase student success and happiness levels.

You pay close attention to the needs of students and potential shifts in the speaking industry in order to provide updated education, resources and coaching to support our students (i.e. when COVID hits the speaking industry, youre responsible for making sure our students are equipped to deal with it).

Student Success Team Leader

You lead and run the entire coaching and education department for The Speaker Lab. You know that you can't do everything yourself so you love building a coaching team that loves and supports our students to be successful.

You love working with our team of coaches and support staff to ensure everyone is on the same page and delivering the best possible experience for our students. You identify and highlight student success and case studies that can be shared internally with our team and externally to encourage other students.

You are a very high output person that gets stuff done but doesnt drop balls. When you say youll do something, we never have to wonder if itll get done. Youre able to document what you do and why you do it. You can see the big picture but then understand how to break that down into smaller bites to take action on.

Student Success Operator/Coach

Youre not afraid to get in the weeds with our students and lead 1:1 and group coaching with them to ensure they are succesful. Youre regularly looking for ways to support our students on a deeper level and help them get the results they desire quicker.

You have experience in the speaking industry and can share insights and specific feedback for students not from theories or ideas but from real-world experiences as a speaker.

  • You determine the best possible resources, tools and systems to make sure students are seeing results and you track/measure those results.
  • You regularly assess the training program curriculum and look for opportunities to improve and add additional resources for issues students have.
  • You own the student experience from the moment a student joins one of our programs. They have a top-notch experience, know exactly where to find what they need and feel supported.
  • Ensure the deliverables of our programs are delivered to the highest level.
  • You have a hiring and leadership background and know how to build, lead and manage a team
  • You engage with the other TSL coaches and team members to ensure everyone is on the same page and knows how to best support students so we provide a consistent experience.
  • Youre actively involved with coaching/supporting students through Elite calls, private Facebook group, Voxer access, 1:1 coaching calls, etc
  • You are the point person for escalated student support issues (i.e. student frustrated, confused, unhappy, etc). You are empowered to do whatever is right and necessary to resolve issues.

Youre The One Were Looking For If:

  • You LOVE working with people (our students, our coaches, our team)
  • You have a knack for connecting with others and can help guide students down a clear path towards success
  • You have thick skin but a soft heart. You know when to give grace and when to enforce justice. You know how to be firm but fair.
  • You are systems driven and good at problem solving. You can figure things out on your own with minimal direction.
  • Youre able to stay focused and on task in your own structured work environment (remember, were a virtual company).
  • You actively seek to improve yourself and the work that you do.
  • You listen well and ask good questions
  • You have a figure-it-out attitude. Even if youve never used a specific tool before, you know how to use google, teach yourself, and figure it out.
  • Youre upbeat and positive and run to challenging tasks instead of away from them.
  • You find joy in the weeds and love getting into the details to find problems and come up with solutions.
  • Incredibly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Others have described you as a perfectionist, and you thrive on making sure every little detail is correct.
  • You enjoy working on a team that loves their jobs and having a good time.
  • You have experience in the speaking industry and are familiar with the online course/coaching industry and business model. Preferable to have experience with coaching programs and/or internet marketing.
  • You have some experience (or are comfortable learning) with online tools like Slack, Hubspot, Asana, Thinkific, etc
  • We dont expect you to be on-call 24/7 but we do expect a high level of responsiveness to our students, our team and any urgent issues during normal business hours (M-F, 8a-5p CST).
  • You are available to begin working as a full time employee of The Speaker Lab.

Disqualifiers: Please DO NOT apply to this position if you...

  • Have less than 3 years of direct coaching/teaching experience
  • Have limited or no experience in the speaking industry
  • Have a side hustle or are actively speaking more than a few times per year. Were looking for long-term teammates. We want you to be all-in with us. This is not a stepping stone towards something else. If you are just looking to build your speaking business, we would love to help you, but this is not the role for you.
  • Do not absolutely love the speaking industry and all things speaking
  • Are just starting your career and are looking for an entry level position. This isnt it.
  • Are not comfortable being in a fast-paced, startup-type company
  • Dont excel at team communication (especially in a virtual environment)
  • Cant manage yourself and get stuff done
  • Dont LOVE obsessing over the details in the customer experience (speaking of details...would love for you to use the word octopus in your cover letter)

This role is remote and we prefer North American time zones. We operate by normal business hours, but this position is flexible and youll have some freedom in when and where youll work. Its more important to us that you accomplish certain tasks and objectives with a high level of responsiveness than needing to constantly clock in/clock out (lame).

We dont micromanage you. Rather, we expect you to be a leader. You will be a daily in-the-weeds operator as well as strategizing, leading and building your team.

Youll get a base salary but will also be compensated via profit sharing. When the business wins and grows, youll win and get a slice of the pie.

You will have a base salary and profit sharing. We will offer compensation based on your experience and skillset. You also receive the benefits of working remotely which will save thousands of dollars in commuting costs and time each year. You will also have unlimited vacation time. In your application, please let us know your desired starting salary range.

A Bit About Us

Here at The Speaker Lab, we help speakers build and grow their business. We do this through many free products such as our podcast, YouTube videos, and blog but we also offer paid digital training through our online courses and training programs.

Weve helped thousands of speakers spread their message all over the world (seriously...we have students in all 50 states and 37 countries). If thats appealing to you, wed love for you to join us.

We do work that matters and we do it in a fun way with a top-notch team of people. We are a virtual company so everyone works remote (but Grant does his best to recruit us to Nashville). We dont track vacation days or time off. We treat you like an adult. Be responsible, get your work done, and well be fine.

We believe that who you are is more important than what you do. Yes, your work matters and we have high standards, but we also care about you as a human. So we prioritize having fun and enjoying life.

Were a fast-growing company that has grown 189% over the past 3 years and now has a core team of 19 people located all across the US (Seattle to SoCal to Utah to DC to PA to FL).

Our Purpose

We give speakers clarity, confidence, and a clear path to make an impact

We help speakers at all levels in their journey. We want to be a guide to show them where to go but also help instill the confidence that they can do this.

Our Core Values

  1. Ownership: We believe ownership means that when you identify a problem, you take responsibility for the solution, and you follow through on the implementation.
  2. Growth: We believe growth means cultivating a culture that encourages challenging the status quo, evolving to meet market needs, and a commitment to personal and professional development.
  3. People: We believe people matter so we serve them by respecting their journey, celebrating their success, building long-term relationships and helping them achieve fulfillment in their work.

How To Apply

At The Speaker Lab, we value work ethic, coachability, and past results MUCH MORE than your degree (or lack thereof), what school you went to, GPA, etc.

Have you delivered results in a similar role in the past? If so, thats what were looking for.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, October 11. We look forward to hearing from you!

P.S. If youre not interested or available for this position, but know someone who is, we would really appreciate it if you passed this along!
