Director Of Student Retention Support

The Director of Student Retention Support will develop and implement strategies and initiatives to meet campus strategic goals regarding student retention, graduation rates, career preparedness, and overall student academic success. The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, coordination, supervision, and evaluation of a robust student retention program offered network wide with a specific focus on first-year students, first-generation students, and at-risk and underprepared undergraduate and graduate students. The Director communicates with and educates students, staff, and faculty on matters related to student retention resources, services, and intervention activities. The person in this position uses data related to student persistence, course completion, and retention to drive continuous services and resources improvement and to contribute to Department Reviews and HLC Reports. Director oversees the department and performs duties as needed.

Position Accountabilities

• Work collaboratively with university leadership to develop and implement a shared vision for student retention initiatives

• Responsible for the implementation of student retention initiatives and interventions for underprepared students, first-year students, first-generation, international students, or those students placed on probation to create individualized success plans; Monitor students' academic plan progress and facilitates interventions for academic success.

• Develop positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across the university and support collaborations and foster awareness of the unique needs of academically at-risk students among staff and faculty. Work cooperatively with others across the university to identify academically at-risk students and to establish innovative and effective interventions.

• Lead efforts to monitor student grade reports and other early alert variables. Determine and execute appropriate intervention activities for students considered at risk throughout academic semesters (high missed attendance/engagement and/or low academic performance issues)

• Develops reliable reporting metrics for use in analyzing academic readiness, persistence, and retention strategies success across multiple student groups

• Coordinates and/or presents a series of workshops and campus-wide seminars on study skills and strategies, learning theory, reading strategies, time management, registration, course planning, etc. as needed

• Leads the Student Retention Support Team (or Care Team) and coordinates student interventions throughout the semester. Collaborates with the Student Persistence and Completion Committee to identify and implement initiatives.

• Provides resources network-wide regarding academic success, major exploration, time management, anti-procrastination techniques, study skills, etc. in the form of guides, tutorials, and workshops.

Position Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, psychology, social welfare or a related field is required. Master's Degree is preferred.

• Ability to work with diverse populations of students from many ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds and of all ages.

• Superior organizational skills to manage educational records.

• Excellent communication skills.

• Experience with student retention and/or student success in higher education

• Computer skills needed to use Microsoft Office. Ability to learn to use Park's learning management system and multiple applications used for delivery of student services.
