What is the Role?

Our organizational values center the diverse scholars and communities we serve -- and this begins with their first introduction to our schools as they enroll with us. The Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment (SRE) plays a central role in connecting Coney Island Prep to our community. The Director of SRE leads the design and implementation of student recruitment and enrollment strategies to ensure Coney Island Prep is meeting enrollment targets across all four campuses. Operational excellence and powerful project management skills are second nature to the Director of SRE as they develop data systems that track and enhance lasting, sustainable methods for recruiting and enrolling students and families. This Director will manage the Family and Community Engagement (FACE) Manager and will be hired by and report to the Chief Strategy Officer.

What You'll Be Asked To Do

Strategic Planning and Project Management

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for short-term and long-term recruitment and enrollment goals for the network; cultivate a deep understanding of industry-wide enrollment trends

  • Analyze, track, and monitor data to inform action plans that deliver results

  • Evaluate current data systems and design plans for improved utilization or replacement to meet growing needs for assessing effectiveness of our strategy

  • Lead weekly enrollment team meetings with relevant network office staff, lead weekly meetings with school-based staff, and lead school leader and Operations professional development to ensure strong collaboration across teams

  • Codify and communicate efficient, deliberate systems and expectations of campus-based staff contributing to student enrollment efforts

  • Set clear approach for engaging families

  • Manage recruitment budget and track expenditures against the budget; procure vendors, manage agreements and timely execution

Student Recruitment

  • Set and communicate clear goals for leads generation, applications, and monitor progress towards goals to ensure sufficient applications

  • Partner with the FACE Manager to leverage community partners in enrollment efforts

  • Invest school-based staff in supporting community recruitment events

  • Manage index of community partners, set application goals per partner, and track enrollment outcomes met through these partnerships

  • Collaborate with the Development and Communications team to ensure robust and aligned social media campaigns and use of digital marketing platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Google) and to assess the return on investment from these marketing efforts

  • Plan, lead, and attend school events; train and provide school-based staff with resources to plan and attend events including info sessions, building tours and canvassing

  • Assist in the development of improved marketing vision, strategy, and materials

Enrollment

  • Run Coney Island Prep's lottery in compliance with state, local, and charter authorizer expectations each April

  • Set clear goals for month-by-month enrollment headcount such that annual FTE is met

  • Consistently monitor student enrollment headcount and develop systems that ensure Operations staff fill seats as soon as they become available so that enrollment targets are met

  • Train relevant staff in best approaches for communicating with families to convert applications to acceptance

  • Train staff on key information tracking systems, such as SchoolMint

  • Collaborate with network Compliance Team and campus-based Operations Teams to ensure seamless transition from network-lead enrollment to campus-managed student registration

  • Collaborate with network Director of Compliance and Director of Special Education to ensure accurate, on-time per pupil billing and per pupil billing projections

  • Manage annual intent to return process through school-based Operations Teams, clarify goals for student retention, confirm school leaders have what they need to drive towards those goals

  • Create a welcoming and engaging experience for families from their first interaction with CIP

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree required; at least five years of work experience in school operations, community organizing, or recruitment; people management experience preferred

  • Impeccable writing skills

  • Experience strategically managing a budget to meet ambitious outcomes

  • Background in organizing, planning, and facilitating large events, meetings, and/or trainings

  • Established knowledge of Excel or Google Sheets; experience with project and budget management software

  • Availability to work occasional evenings and weekends throughout the year

  • Cultural competencies to work in low-income communities and a willingness to examine own biases across lines of difference

  • A strong track record of building positive relationships across various stakeholder groups demonstrating a value towards diversity and inclusivity

  • Proven organizational, oral, and written communication skills; timeliness; accuracy; and consistent and regular communication; and ability to meet due dates

  • Self reflective and open to feedback, with the ambition and desire to grow one's professional practice

  • A positive, solutions-oriented attitude and drive for excellence

  • Eager to work collaboratively as part of a team

  • Passion for education and a dedication to Coney Island Prep's mission, beliefs, and values and its commitment to anti-racism

  • Steadfast belief that all students can achieve at the highest academic levels and deserve an opportunity to succeed in the college and career of their choice

  • Spanish, Russian, or Mandarin language proficiency is a plus

Coney Island Prep is a college preparatory public charter school in Brooklyn, New York. Merging growth, performance, and commitment, the Coney Island Prep community takes its responsibility to prepare scholars for the college and career of their choice very seriously, but not ourselves. We balance our sense of ownership and responsibility with humility and levity and support each other every step of the way. Coney Island Prep currently serves over 1,300 scholars across its four schools, including:

  • 312 scholars in kindergarten - second grade at the lower elementary school
  • 336 scholars in third - fifth grade at the upper elementary school
  • 348 scholars in sixth - eighth grades at the middle school
  • 349 scholars in ninth-twelfth grade at the high school

Benefits and Compensation

  • Employees at Coney Island Prep are provided with salaries that are set through a lens of equity and based on an individual's skills and experiences relevant to the role. The salary range for this position is from $95,000 - 125,000.

  • As a regular, full time employee of Coney Island Prep you will be eligible for benefits that include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance as well as a 403(b) retirement benefit package with match and Paid Family Leave.
