Job Title: Director, Student Life & Judicial Affairs

Department: Student Affairs

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports to: Vice President, Student Affairs

Work Schedule: 35 hours/week; 12 months/year

Union: N/A

Grade Level: 8

Salary Range: $75,000 - $85,000

General purpose: Provide leadership for the Center for Student Engagement. Serve as the College's Chief Student Conduct Officer.

Summary of Essential Functions

  • Plays a critical role within the Division of Student Affairs in its efforts to continue to strengthen the student co-curricular experience through the Student Life team.

  • In partnership with the Vice President, prioritizes the College's retention efforts and works closely with Academic Affairs to foster and promote an integrative and holistic curricular experience for student artists.

  • Oversees the College's Student Conduct and Community Standards program and serves as the Chief Adjudication Officer.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Work with the team of Student Affairs Directors to address the needs and concerns of students.

  • Supervise the Director of the Center for Student Engagement and provide leadership and direction for a comprehensive student engagement program, including Orientation, Parent's Weekend, and Commencement. Provide guidance and expertise to campus programmatic efforts in collaboration with Student Affairs staff.

  • Provide overall guidance and direction for all activities and programs related to the Student Engagement team. Assure student life programming is grounded in student development theory, appropriate artistic and community development, and student learning principles. Coordinate goal-setting in the areas of student leadership programs, and student governance; and partners with other Division staff to collaborate on health promotion, wellness, and mental health initiatives.

  • Act as the primary architect of campus co-curricular involvement and leadership opportunities for students. Maintain databases related to student involvement, and guide division efforts related to expanding opportunities for student leadership.

  • Collaborate with campus colleagues to provide a holistic and student-centered approach to the student experience facilitating students' academic success and well-being from recruitment to graduation.

  • Facilitate the College's Student Conduct and Community Standards Program, coordinating the investigation and adjudication of student conduct cases. Recruit and train hearing boards. Assure Student Affairs compliance with Cleary Act statistical reporting. Review College disciplinary policy and processes as needed, and working closely with the Vice President of Student Affairs, make necessary recommendations for changes.

  • Provide expertise and leadership related to Title IX, Violence Against Women Act, and related legislations. Develop comprehensive education and training for students.

  • Chair the College's Behavioral Intervention Team.

  • Manage various lines of the student affairs budget and oversee the budgets for Student Engagement, Orientation, and others.

  • Function as a liaison to other divisional areas of the College as needed. Lead and serve on campus committees, research trends, and perform project work assigned by the Vice President on an on-going basis.

  • Participate in the on-call after hours emergency response rotation providing emergency back-up to the Residence Halls and during other campus crises.

  • May work evenings and/or weekends as needed to support major campus programs such as Orientation, Family Weekend, and other campus events.

  • Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and experience with college students.

  • Sensitivity to and interest in the unique concerns of students involved in artistic pursuits in a highly specialized and demanding educational environment.

  • Ability to work and supervise in a collaborative, arts-oriented academic environment, and believe in the vital role of art in society.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Student Affairs related field.

  • Experience: Five to seven years of Student Affairs experience in a college/university setting or equivalent professional background.

  • Demonstrated strong management, organizational and problem-solving skills in student affairs areas.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Progressive experience in either Student Engagement, Title IX, or Student Conduct

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.

  • Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
