The Director of Student Health Service provides leadership to the Student Health Service office and staff to provide high quality health care, evaluation, treatment, and referral to students. This person will be responsible for initiating and implementing health education and wellness programs. To oversee the daily operation of Student Health Service and to integrate health and wellness into the University community.
Provides direct primary health care services to students, including medical and psychosocial evaluation, treatment, and outside referrals when appropriate.
Acts as a consultative colleague to the other clinicians.
Health Education and Wellness:
Initiates and implement health education and wellness programs on campus.
Collaborates with other campus programs if there is an opportunity to increase healthy living and the visibility of SHS.
Supervises the SHS staff including nurse practitioners, physician, pharmacology clinical nurse specialist, medical office manager/immunization manager, and graduate student office assistant.
Responsible for the hiring of new staff members when appropriate.
Interacts with and support students' families and their other health care providers as appropriate, in the best interest of the students and without compromise of confidential information.
Collaborates with other departments in the Division of Student Life and Academic Development and with other Divisions.
Serves as liaison with community hospitals and providers.
Serves as a liaison with the Cambridge and Massachusetts Departments of Public Health, and to act as the "point-person" should a university-wide emergency occur.
Implements policies and procedures for safe and appropriate primary health care services to insure that the SHS and all practitioners are in legal compliance.
Develops and manage the budget for the SHS, both revenues and appropriate expenditures.
Supervises the management of a confidential medical record system to control and protect private medical information and its transmission following applicable laws.
Coordinates services with reference laboratories, pharmacies, and hazardous medical waste disposal services.
Provides input and acts as a liaison with health insurance issues and providers to coordinate SHS with Student Health Insurance process on campus.
Manages the shared services of the Consulting psycho/pharmacologist (Clinical Nurse Specialist) with the Counseling Center, and to coordinate joint staff meetings with both offices.
Presents pertinent training at orientations and CA trainings.
At least three to five years of clinical experience in a college health setting.
Experience in Student Health at the Assistant Director level or higher.
Must be a Nationally Certified Nurse Practitioner and currently possessing, or be eligible for, Massachusetts State License, Massachusetts Controlled Substances License, and Federal DEA prescribing license.
Interest in college health wellness and health education.
Experience supervising personnel and overseeing departmental budget.
Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Must be computer literate.
Must be comfortable providing non-judgmental care to students with diverse backgrounds and complex physical, emotional, and intellectual capabilities.
Must be authorized to work in the United States; if you hold a visa, does your visa status allow you to work at Lesley University.
Salary Grade 28.
