Located in Greater Boston, MassBay is a comprehensive, open-access community college offering associate degrees and certificate programs on three campuses in Wellesley Hills, Framingham, and Ashland, Massachusetts.

Position Summary:

The ideal candidate will join a vibrant and inclusive educational community and have a desire and ability to work with a diverse population. Housed in the Student Development Division, the Director of Student Engagement, Identity and Belonging at MassBay Community College provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the comprehensive student engagement program, emphasizing the cultivation of identity, belonging, and community across all three campuses. This role oversees the direction of campus-wide programming, fosters inclusive environments, and facilitates personal development opportunities aligned with MassBay's commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Additionally, the candidate upholds the values of the Student Development Division: Respect, Inclusion, Support, Empowerment, and Reflection.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Conduct assessments of student needs and current programs to identify opportunities for improvement and innovation. Establish protocols for evaluating the effectiveness of student engagement initiatives, utilizing data-driven insights to guide policy decisions;

  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives to promote belonging, inclusivity, and student engagement campus-wide;

  • Design and coordinate campus-wide programming initiatives that inspire student engagement and foster a sense of belonging;

  • Develop and implement comprehensive policies and procedures related to the department, including guidelines for student clubs, leadership development programs, and program development, ensuring alignment with College values and goals;

  • Collaborate with campus stakeholders to solicit feedback and input in the policy development process, fostering a culture of inclusivity;

  • Conduct regular reviews and evaluations of existing department policies, making adjustments as necessary to ensure relevance and effectiveness in meeting the evolving needs of the student population;

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop diverse events and programs that meet the interests of the student body;

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Student Government Association (SGA), while serving as the primary liaison to College administration;

  • Develop and facilitate leadership programs aimed at empowering students to become effective leaders;

  • Provide training and resources to cultivate leadership skills among student leaders;

  • Collaborate closely with the Chief Diversity Officer and other campus stakeholders to foster partnerships and initiatives that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion;

  • Supervise assigned staff, including the Coordinator of the Students of Color Program and Assistant Coordinator for Student Engagement, providing guidance and support in their roles;

  • Develop and implement strategies to support and enhance the overall club experience on campus;

  • Provide leadership and guidance to club executive teams, assisting them in planning events, managing finances, and resolving issues;

  • Oversee the creation and management of the department's annual operating budget, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with programmatic goals;

  • Oversee all communications efforts within the department, including the creation and distribution of newsletters and other relevant materials to effectively engage with the student body;

  • Serve as an advocate for student engagement and inclusion through frequent attendance and high visibility at campus and community programs, events, and activities;

  • Propose proactive solutions for promoting the success of all underserved, first generation, non-traditional aged communities;

  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Engage with the Office of Diversity on issues related to underserved student success;

  • Further the examination of pertinent practices that are culturally responsive and reflective of inclusive perspectives; and

  • Engage in conversations with colleagues and students regarding best practices within the discipline or programmatic related to equity and inclusion.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution in the field of Student Affairs, Leadership, Social Justice, Higher Education Administration or related field;

  • Minimum Five (5) years of direct student affairs experience including student engagement planning,/management; and leadership development;

  • Minimum three (3) years of supervision;

  • Able to provide support, timely feedback and clear communication to all staff;

  • Cultural awareness and competency demonstrated by working with and/or understanding of individuals of diverse identities including ethnicity, race, socioeconomic background, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, and veterans' status as well as those with different levels of academic preparation, physical and learning abilities;

  • Experience and competence in technology, including Microsoft suite and social media communication;

  • Ability to thrive and remain professional in a busy and demanding environment;

  • Demonstrated strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;

  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;

  • Experience working in a diverse environment;

  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved, first generation, non-traditional aged students;

  • Fluency in a second language (Spanish or Portuguese);

  • Experience working with a largely commuter population.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $85,000.00 - 95,000.00 Annual Salary
