Description

Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Director of the Center for Student Engagement oversees many student-facing programs and functions designed to promote the co-curricular life and development of Iona University's 3500 undergraduate and graduate students. The director supervises three professional staff, graduate interns, and many student employees with the focus on building a team that promotes the positive creation of a vibrant and engaging campus environment. The director will have a significant role in the planning, execution, and evaluation of programming focused on diversity, leadership, student governance, and student activities.

The Director is an important member of the Division of Enrollment Management and Student Affairs team and ultimately supports the recruitment and student retention goals of the University through the execution of specific student-engagement responsibilities. This person will understand and uphold Iona's Catholic-Christian tradition as well as the University's commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.

Major areas of responsibility

Student Activities & Programming

  • Responsible for the planning, advisement, and assessment of on-campus events

  • Organize advisement for student clubs and organizations

  • Support student-led activities board

  • Coordinate or assist with large-scale campus events including Homecoming, Spring Weekend, Senior events, Multicultural Recognition Ceremony, and Commencement activities

Diversity

  • Coordinate diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging student initiatives and programming and support student development and assessment in these areas

  • With students, coordinate regular diversity and awareness celebrations

  • Support University-wide diversity efforts in partnership with broader university stakeholders including the Chief Diversity Officer, student affairs and academic affairs colleagues, committees, and student leaders

  • Serve as the chair or co-chair of the Student Life Diversity Committee

  • Serve as an ex-officio member of the College Council Diversity Committee

Commuter Initiatives

  • Support the development of commuter students via execution of commuter student engagement program

  • Oversee the selection, training, supervision, and evaluation of 8-10 undergraduate Commuter Assistants

  • Co-advise the Commuter Student Association (CSA)

Student Leadership Development

  • Advise and/or delegate advisement of the Student Government Association (SGA) and related initiatives, committees, and activities

  • Promote the formation, promotion, and maintenance of clubs & organizations through SGA structure

  • Provide trainings for clubs and organizations, including student leaders and general membership

  • Assist in the leadership and administration of Fraternity & Sorority Life

  • Advise class councils, their initiatives and programs to aid in class unity, identity and spirit

  • Advance the implementation of a progressive student leadership development program

  • Coordinate leadership recognition programs including but not limited to the Annual G.A.E.L. Awards, Who's Who Among College Students, and National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS).

Leadership of the Center for Student Engagement

  • Serve as a representative for CSE at events and with University-wide committees and provide programming advisement to meet these needs as appropriate

  • Ensure club and departmental involvement in University-wide events, including Student Involvement Fair, Open Houses, and Accepted Students Days

  • Supervise and promote the professional development of CSE professional staff, including Assistant Directors, Coordinator, Intern(s), and assist in supporting the supervision of student staff.

Contributions to broader Enrollment Management and Student Affairs efforts

  • Serve as a New Student Orientation Coordinator including but not limited to oversight and development of the Orientation Leader recruitment and training development, and program content development.

  • Maintain representation as designated member of the CARE team for behavioral intervention

  • Serve as a Student Conduct administrator and hearing officer

  • Represent the University and division with wider recruitment, engagement, and retention activities

  • Aid with the development and implementation of student and office assessment initiatives

  • Assist with crisis management providing service to students during emergency situations at Iona.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional employment information

  • This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position in-person on the New Rochelle, New York campus

  • Position will have oversight of functions and events requiring some nights and weekend responsibilities

Qualifications

Requirements

Education

  • Master's Degree required, preferably in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs, or Counseling. Advanced degrees in related fields will be considered with requisite work experience.

Skills & Requirements

  • Program development including the ability to design, plan, execute, and evaluate high-quality activities and programs for a wide array of students

  • Sound administrative, time management, and budgeting skills

  • Team and supervisory skills to motivate, develop, and hold staff accountable

  • Familiarity with facilities and student union space management

  • Comfort with various technology platforms, including but not limited to Microsoft Office 360, 25Live, Maxient, Pharos, and social media

Compensation

  • Salary Range $65k-$80k

  • Full access to standard administrative-level university benefits

  • University-provided housing is available at the discretion of the Dean of Students upon position offer
