PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Under the direction of the Principal, the director of student activities will plan, direct and review the activities and operations of student activities, student government, and student organizations; coordinate assigned activities with other departments and outside agencies; train and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. To provide a student activities program that meets the educational and social needs of students in the student activities director's area of responsibility and in relation to the school and community.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient in organizational skills, typing, and word processing
Effective communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, and teachers
Experience:
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
School/Organizational Climate
Administer and coordinate membership requirements, fund-raising activities, and social activities of all school-sponsored clubs.
Prepare and distribute all publicity releases that pertain to student activities to the Superintendent's designee.
Prepare and distribute printed announcements daily, and program the data message board in the cafeteria weekly.
Coordinate the ordering of letters jackets for school organizations.
School/Organizational Improvement
Approve all signs and posters that are displayed in the school.
Conduct new student orientation prior to the beginning of each school year, and coordinate activities to make students who enter the school after the first class day feel welcome.
Conduct student leadership workshops for student council members, members, officers of other clubs, and any other interested students.
Sponsor and conduct the activities of the Good Sportsmanship League.
Personnel Management
Secure and assign personnel from the staff and from outside agencies, as appropriate and with the permission of the principal, to expedite activities and provide proper supervision and security for all student activities.
Serve on staff committees as required.
Serve as a permanent member of the faculty-student relations committee.
Handle recognition programs for outstanding students, teachers, and other faculty members.
Administration and Fiscal/Facilities Management
Assume responsibility for the preparation, submission, and administration of an annual student activities budget.
Meet with all vendors and other solicitors, informing them of district/school guidelines for fundraising and contacting the appropriate sponsors.
Assist student council members in preparing and selling the football program.
Contact photographers and arrange for pictures to be made for school dances, football programs, and other special events.
Decorate the school for holidays, conduct door-decorating contests, and promote club participation.
Sell tickets for and organize student transportation for playoff games and other special events.
Student Management
Serve as the sponsor of the Inter-Club Council, coordinating joint school activities, unity, and communication among the various school-sponsored clubs.
Sponsor the Student Council, attending weekly general meetings, weekly early morning executive board meetings, and coordinating the various committee meetings and special events.
Initiate, administer, and coordinate a series of special programs, including an annual senior class picnic, all school dances, banquets as required, performances by outside groups for the student body, all assembly programs, open house, graduation exercises, and pre-game activities for football games including homecoming, etc.
Recruit, train, and schedule student council volunteers to serve as hospitality guides for parents and other visitors to the school.
Administer and coordinate all student elections with the assistance of the assistant principal.
Select students for attendance at all district, state, and national student council activities, and attend with them as chaperone and advisor.
School/Community Relations
Plan and coordinate school participation in district and community special events such as Some Other Place, Red Cross, Black History Month, teacher in-service programs hospitality, special rallies, parades, etc.
Serve as contact for ex-students who need help in planning class reunions, etc.
Assist PTA in planning and conducting special faculty appreciation events.
Conduct a yearly blood drive.
Professional Growth and Development
Prepare and distribute a monthly activity and special events calendar.
Attend the Sponsors' Workshop given by the Texas Association of Student Councils in September to learn about new rules that pertain to the organization that is sponsored by the Association of Secondary School Principals.
Other
Perform duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner as defined in the Texas Education Agency Code of Ethics for Educators.
Perform other duties as assigned.

The State Board for Educator Certification will require all first time applicants for an initial credential to be fingerprinted as part of a national criminal background check. A cost of up to $49. 00 will be charged for fingerprinting.
