Limestone University invites applications for a full-time position of Director of Student Activities and Intramurals

Position Summary: The Director of Student Activities and Intramurals fosters student engagement by creating innovative campus-wide programs and co-curricular activities for a diverse student community. The Director will provide leadership and oversight to campus clubs and organizations, the student activities board, and the intramural sports program. In addition, the Director will facilitate administrative and logistical aspects of the camps and conferences hosted on Limestone's campus. The Director of Student Activities and Intramurals reports to the Dean of Student Success and is a key leader within the Student Success Division.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Student Activities/Event Planning

  • Plan, implement and evaluate co-curricular student activities that provide a welcoming campus environment and support student recruitment, retention, and the achievement of academic and career goals.

  • Develop, direct, and evaluate a comprehensive Intramural Sports and open recreation program that meets the University community's various skill levels, abilities, and interests.

  • Oversee and assist the student activity board in developing activities, events, and programs designed for students' social, cultural, and instructional development.

  • Develop and promote diverse fitness and wellness offerings; Purchase and maintain inventory for the fitness and recreational facilities.

  • Prepare and disseminate publications related to student clubs, activities, and intramurals; Assists in preparing and editing student flyers, posters, literature, and other materials prepared by student groups for on and off-campus distribution. Implements and oversees processes for posting/distributing materials on campus as requested.

  • Maintain and regularly publishes a calendar of activities and events that is made readily available to the Limestone University community.

  • Promote and support campus clubs and organizations through an annual orientation and ongoing communication with the clubs and organizations, including their advisors.

  • Coordinate and approves the recruitment of new faculty sponsors/advisors.

  • Promote, organize, and coordinate campus special events such as organizational fairs, Homecoming activities, blood drives, movie nights, and other activities.

  • Establish and assess measurable student learning outcomes, program goals, and objectives; Maintain statistical reports, surveys, and other records to assess accomplishments, appropriate student learning outcomes, and departmental needs.

Facilities Oversight, Budget, and Fiscal Planning

  • Maintain accurate records of all Student Activities events, including event proposals, budgets, contacts, media/publicity, and evaluations.

  • Oversee the repairs and maintenance of the Hines & Riggins Student Center, Timken Weightroom, and other areas in the Timken East Gymnasium.

  • Develop and monitor the allocation of any available general funds and student center funds related to student activities.

  • Facilitate contracts and agreements with outside vendors, bands, entertainers, etc.

  • Ensure revenue and expenditures are reported appropriately to the Business Office

  • Hire, train, and supervise student staff.

  • Work with the Dean of Student Success to create policies and procedures regarding departmental operations to facilitate effective resource utilization, standardized policies, and consistent information.

Camps and Conferences

  • Assist in the management of conference and event-related activities, including client billing and contracts.

  • Schedule and coordinate University Services (meals, housing, meeting spaces, transportation, and other support services) for conferences, workshops, and summer camps

  • Develop a network of potential clients and colleagues within the conference and event industry to enhance the public presence of the University as a conference site.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree with experience in activities planning and implementation required, master's degree in Higher Education and experience at the collegiate level preferred. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends when necessary. Must want to work at a small, private college and work independently and cooperatively with other Student Success Staff.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Will oversee a staff of student workers and Graduate Assistant

  • Written Communication: Writes clearly and effectively both within the college and outside correspondence.

  • Customer Service: Responds quickly and effectively to all constituent's questions and concerns. Investigates solutions to problems and responds quickly to the concerned party. Is prudent in responding to telephone calls, emails, and other types of correspondence.

  • To perform the position effectively and successfully should have knowledge of Microsoft Programs, be able to perform tasks in Word and Excel. Ability to negotiate new computer programs with ease and learn new software.
