This is a transitional position. In early 2025, the Director of Special Education Compliance will assume the Director of Special Education's responsibilities of supervising the entire team and program.
These are the essential requirements to serve in the Director of Special Education Compliance role:
Any combination of training/education, and experience equivalent to a graduate degree from an accredited college/university (plus associated credential requirements to be listed per role).
California Education Specialist credential; clear credential preferred
California Administrative Services credential or willingness to obtain a credential
Minimum of 5+ years of successful experience in administrative school leadership, comparable private and/or non-profit sector experience, or related school operations.
Substantial knowledge of State and Federal requirements, case law, and current trends in special education requirements, ensuring that programs and activities comply with special education laws, process and regulations.
Experience working with blended, online, personalized, and/or virtual learning schools preferred.
Proficient in collaborative and productive technology, including:
digital engagement tools, e.g., Zoom, Google Meet
computer & software skills, e.g., Google Suite and Microsoft
digital literacy, e.g., website navigation, file navigation
information & communication, e.g., email, intranet, web & mobile applications
Education and data technology, e.g. student information system, digital courseware, online learning platforms, SEIS
Primary duties for the Director of Special Education Compliance may include:
Works alongside the Director of Special Education to Oversee department direction/compliance with applicable state and federal laws, staying current on initiatives, legal regulations and requirements that contribute to scholar success.
Supports the development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of special education state compliance monitoring activities, CDE complaint resolution, Due Process cases and ADR implementation in Special Education.
Advises the Chief Academic Officer & Director of Special Education on issues and concerns related to special education compliance.
Integrates relevant peer-reviewed research into policies and procedures.
Serves as LEA Administrator on IEPs as necessary.
Works closely with the Director of Special Education to facilitate IEPs, Resolution Sessions, and ADR activities as needed to resolve special education disputes.
Ensures program administrators are properly trained to serve as LEA administrators during IEP meetings.
Co-represents Compass Charters and maintains positive and productive relationships at SELPA meetings and committees
Serves as a member of the Academic and Superintendent's Leadership Team to maintain top-level communication on all matters related to the successful functioning of the Special Education Department and the organization as a whole.
