Job Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services, the Director of Special Education provides technical, specialized, consultative, and advisory input, and directs the delivery of special education programs and services; Ensures compliance with Federal and State Special Education Regulations, Section 504, and the Americans with Disabilities Act; Provides service and support to schools and site administration regarding the educational program for students with identified special needs, and support for prevention and intervention programs for non-identified students considered at-risk; Provides the coordination of services to students with specialized needs; Supervises the district School Psychologists, Speech Therapists, classified Special Education Assistants, and clerical staff for the Support Services Department; Assists in the monitoring of budgets and data; monitors legislation and provides interpretive guidance; Serves as SELPA contact and represents the district at Special Education Administrators' Committee (SEAC), and SELPA Workgroups as needed by the SELPA Director; Coordinates and supervises the mainstreaming of students with special need; Serves as a regular member of the District's Management Team.

QUALIFICATIONS: The position requires specialized subject matter expertise in special education law and best practices, as well as extensive experience directly related to special education. Other areas of desired expertise include crisis response, trauma informed schools, school safety planning, general education curriculum and instruction, and laws relating to the provision of special education services, education, and student and parent rights. • Pupil Personnel Services Credential or Special Education Credential • California Administrative Services Credential • Master's Degree or higher in Elementary Education, Special Education or a related field, or equivalent professional experience as determined by GFUSD. • Minimum five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience (special education preferred). • Three (3) years of successful administrative experience preferred.
