We are helping our client in their search for a Director of Software Engineering with one of the best places to work in Seattle. As aTechnology Director, you will lead and manage all aspects of product management life cycle from strategy through delivery and measurement. You lead all technical work for items in your assigned work space and are responsible for the mentoring, coaching, and management of a team of software engineers, product and development managers. You define, build, communicate and manage clear business metrics and service level agreements and continuously evaluate our core technology processes and look for opportunities to streamline and add greater value. You will work strategically with senior leadership on organizational design and execution and are a leader across the organization

QUALIFICATIONS
  • 5+ years of management experience
  • 7+ years direct software development experience
  • Strong software development, design and architecture experience
  • Have experience partnering with and/or leading technical product managers and/or product management teams
  • Demonstrate the ability to think big and follow through on delivering significant business innovation
  • Experience working in a highly agile software development environment
  • Ability to multitask, work well under pressure, prioritize and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated personal initiative and strong ownership
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills with the ability to influence others
  • Very strong analytical skills with experience building financial models to measure program results
  • Experience building and support technology solutions focused on a retail direct to consumer supply chain is a big plus

Education
Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred

The primary role will be to ensure best in class engineering standards, processes and flow in our Operations enabling superior service capability to our external customers at the lowest sustainable cost for Staples. This role will work with both business and technical teams to build a scalable and reliable fulfillment network for Staples in North America. The desired candidate will provide technical guidance, operational expertise, and analytical support to Logistics Strategy, Facilities Design, Construction, Finance, Field Operations, and Operations Research teams. The successful candidate will develop material handling systems design (for order fulfillment and retail distribution operation) with the development of controls specifications, control schematics, PLC logic and implement solutions. This individual will also develop strategic operating procedures that support network-wide business objectives in Order Fulfillment and Retail Distribution and evaluate new or improved operating methods, technology, equipment, facility design, and layout. In addition, this role will lead the development of viable solutions to automate pick, pack and ship processes within our Fulfillment Centers using Robotics, Artificial Intelligence and Neural Networks, and provide guidance to teams that develop and implement algorithms to optimize Least Cost Algorithms, Order Fulfillment Logic, Cost to Serve Model and seamless multi-sourcing. * PLEASE NOTE* Job Location is in Framingham, MA (Stapes Corporate Office)-Open to applicants willing to relocate Impact on the Business: * Operate as a subject matter expert on fulfillment best practices and process improvements. * Lead Programmable Logic Control (PLC) program teams. * Perform on-site commissioning support. Innovation and Change: * Identify innovative revenue-generating and transformational opportunities for Staples Supply Chain and evaluate key performance indicators to monitor and research the heath of the operations. Use findings to initiate process improvements that support business goals and objectives. Communication/Interactions: * Work closely with the Software Engineering team to integrate control solutions. * Provide necessary documentation to support the field teams. People Leadership: * Oversees responsibilities and performance of team. * Conduct full performance appraisals and coaching for direct reports. * Review and approve pay actions for indirect reports Business Strategy: * Build and support the new robotics deployment plan within Staples Fulfillment centers. Qualifications Basic: * MBA or Master's degree in Engineering/Computer Science * Bachelor's degree in Engineering – Electrical or Mechanical discipline preferred * 6-10 years of big box DC/FC operational background preferably with a fortune 200, running a DC/ FC with full P&L responsibility. * 5+ years leading network process IE/Lean teams in multi-site improvement initiatives with demonstrable successful integrations of automation, MHE controls, and software in DC/FC environments. Knowledge of conveyor hardware and software functionality. * At least 1-2 years working in a Materials Handling environment. Experience designing and deploying a high quality, scalable enterprise robotic or automated solutions. Preferred Competencies: * Demonstrated successful integrations of automation, MHE controls, and software in DC/FC environments. Knowledge of conveyor hardware and software functionality * Experience with developing schematics, electrical layout diagrams, and electrical wiring. Experience with conveyor, sortation, and commissioning of Material handling equipment. Must enjoy and be willing to embrace, learn and implement new cutting-edge technologies. * Familiarity with Windows and Linux OS and the following programming languages C, C++, C#, Dot Net or Java is a plus.
