The Director of Sales & Marketing provides leadership and strategic direction to the sales team in an effort to maximize all aspects of revenue generation related to group room sales, food & beverage sales, spa, golf course, sports club and other ancillary revenues. The position is also responsible for the overall positioning of the resort's brand communication and manages an in-house marketing team and 3rd party agencies.

The Director of Sales and Marketing is responsible for total room, banquet, catering, meeting room rental and ancillary revenues related to visiting groups and developing yields that optimize overall resort revenues, including The Sports Club, Birdwood Golf, The Mill Room, Catering and the Spa. This is achieved through innovative sales strategies, room mix, catering contribution and all ancillary revenue contributions.
The Director of Sales & Marketing is responsible for overseeing the success of the Cavalier Club Program, an annual resort membership enrollment program, to drive increased bottom line revenue.
Candidates for the Director of Sales & Marketing position must have proven experience in creating and managing multi-channel marketing plans that drive brand awareness and overall revenues. This includes digital (email, search engine marketing, website, social media) and traditional marketing mediums (print, radio, collateral, video production, etc.).
The Director of Sales & Marketing leads, motivates, and supports the group sales, marketing and catering teams to maximize revenues and margins by achieving budgeted room occupancy, ADR and catering goals; maintaining interdepartmental communications, and contributing to the overall direction of the resort; and effectively managing all sales and marketing expenses while attaining overall budgeted revenues and goals.
Fostering a positive results oriented team environment to increase sales and improve customer service goals.
Communicates goals and objectives and coaches and mentors sales, catering and marketing team members to reach goals and peak performance.
Reviews and approves all group and catering contracts.
Meet with key clients, maintains existing relationships and provides negotiation assistance to the sales team in an effort to close bookings.
Formulate fiscal revenue goals and objectives.
Analyzes sales data to prepare forecasts and pacing reports, strategies, action plans and promotional budgets.
Works closely with the Executive Director of Food & Beverage to create annual catering and banquet budgets, annual banquet repertoire, wedding packages and fosters relationships with the banquet and culinary teams.
Develop marketing plans for the entire resort.
Works closely with Cavalier Club Sales Manager to drive membership growth through direct mail, onsite and referral sales.
Works closely with the Director of Operations to update monthly and quarterly sales forecast for group sales, banquet sales and catering.
Collect and review competitive market analyses to understand customer needs and continuously update revenue strategies that reflects local and regional competition.
Assist with the creation and implementation of annual and monthly direct sales action plans for sales managers.
Provides leadership to ensure proper positioning of the property to achieve overall mission.
Analyze and control department expenditures to conform to budgetary requirements.
Prepares periodic sales reports showing sales volume, potential sales and areas of proposed client base expansion.
Actively engages the UVA community in the benefits of utilizing the resort for meetings and events.
Oversees conference planning/catering team to effectively sell hotel rooms, meeting space and associated food & beverage as profitably as possible.
