As Director of Sales, you will

  • Manage all aspects of the sales and marketing division. Provide the strategic vision for maximum hotel sales generation and optimal revenue growth.

  • Lead a talented sales team that makes the vision reality. You lead by modeling the way, by empowering, and coaching throughout the employment lifecycle.

  • Effectively channel your knowledge of the competitive landscape. Assess the effectiveness of company programs to determine optimum revenues using Interstate system reports and market data, in order to innovate.

  • Forge relationships and build rapport. Cultivate, enhance and leverage external and internal relationships to elevate hotel and market share awareness and drive business.

  • Collaborate with Finance to ensure the division's sales plan is on budget to meet or exceed revenue expectations and profit goals.

Fundamentals

A four-year degree or equivalent experience or education is required. Five years experience within hotels sales, with two years minimum as department head (such as Director, Group Sales) is required, also.

Highly developed written and verbal English communication skills to effectively negotiate, persuade, influence, and sell are critical. Expect local travel, weekly. And, national or international travel is possible four to five times per year.

Function (Scope and Main Purpose of Job) The development and solicitation of business from all markets to ensure the necessary advance bookings needed for a successful and profitable operation for the venue. As a Director of Sales and Marketing, you would be responsible for leading and directing the development and implementation of strategic sales and marketing plans and initiatives in the hotel's continuing effort to deliver outstanding guest service and financial profitability. Recommends the marketing, advertising and sales plans and programs and annual budget; manages within approved plans and budgets. Specific Responsibilities and Duties * Build and execute Pre-Open Sales Plan * Train all members of the hotel staff on how to recognize and capitalize on all sales opportunities to increase hotel occupancy and revenue. * Manage Human Resources in the division in order to attract, retain and motivate the employees; hire, train, develop, empower, coach and counsel, conduct performance and salary reviews, resolve problems, provide open communication vehicles, discipline and terminate, as appropriate. * Implement company programs and manage the operations of the division in a manner consistent with policies and procedures; prepare, analyze and review forecasts, statements and reports to determine if the plans and programs are producing the optimal amount of revenue. * Meet specified monthly/annual booking goals as established during annual budgeting process by developing and continually enhancing relationships with corporate, business, travel industry, community organizations, professional associations, media, etc., current and potential clients to maintain and increase awareness of the hotel and our market share. * Survey, review and analyze competition, market trends, customer needs and comments in order to develop new plans and programs and determine the potency of current plans and programs. (10%) * Develop recommend, implement and manage the division's annual budget and the advertising, public relations marketing and sales plans and programs for the hotel to maximize rate, occupancy and food & beverage opportunities thus ensuring the hotel meets/exceeds management and owner revenue/profit goals and expectation. (10%) * Perform special projects and other responsibilities as assigned * Participate in task force and committees as required * Conduct property tours * Participate in the hotel's Quality Program III. Job Requirements (skills, knowledge, and abilities) * Requires advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the sales/marketing/hospitality profession. This includes experiential knowledge required for management of people, complex problems and efficient sales activities. * Make decisions within the standards of the position which can impact more than one department, but usually not more than one hotel. Only general policies and procedures are available for guidance and superior is kept informed only of general direction of assignment. * Requires studying, analyzing and interpreting complex activities or information in order to improve new practices or develop new approaches. * Must possess highly developed communication skills to frequently negotiate, convince, sell and influence other managerial personnel, hotel guest(s) and/or corporate clients. IV. Educational Requirements * Education: Four year college degree or equivalent education/experience. Three (3) years' experience of progressive leadership experience as a Director of Sales & Marketing * Experience: Experience in the Philadelphia Area and with the development and implementation of a sales and marketing plan. Knowledge of profit generation and forecasting a plus. Experience with banquets and catering required. * Must be able to obtain the required license for the position as determined by the Pennsylvania Gaming Commission. V.
