Status: Exempt, Full Time

Location: Seattle, Washington/ Remote Fridays

Pay Range: The full pay range for this job is $124,266 to $186,400 per year and the typical hiring range for this role is $155,333 to $170,866. The actual offer will consider multiple factors including but not limited to education, experience, internal equity, and other job-relevant considerations.

Job Summary:

The Safety Director at NorthStar Energy Shared Services is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing the organization's safety programs and policies. This role ensures compliance with safety regulations, promotes a culture of safety awareness, and fosters continuous improvement in safety performance. The Safety Director is the on-the-ground safety professional for our Alaska companies and consults with executives of NorthStar Energy and its subsidiaries on their safety programs to minimize workplace hazards, prevent accidents, and protect the well-being of employees, contractors, and the environment.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops, implements, and monitors Occupational Safety and Health Programs for multiple work sites in Alaska and monitors and advises on safety programs for multiple other states.

  • Updates and participates in annual safety audits at all locations in Alaska and conducts spot audits each year in other states.

  • Conducts on-site visits to all Alaska locations to evaluate safety policies and procedures and efficiency of those programs.

  • Performs inspections of work sites for compliance with OSHA standards including limited hazardous materials, life safety, emergency response, industrial hygiene and fire hazard exposures.

  • Performs Root Cause Accident Investigations, including taking statements and producing analysis of incidents, and recommendations for appropriate remedial action.

  • Reviews all incident investigation reports along with supporting documents. Analyzes and interprets accident or incident reports and reviews recommendations for corrective action to eliminate unsafe conditions and assist in their implementation.

  • Develops post-inspection written reports and recommends corrective action.

  • Establishes, and monitors compliance with, a safety training matrix for our Alaska companies.

  • Facilitates employees on OSHA-required training per an established training matrix

  • Chairs monthly Safety committee meetings and maintains minutes

  • Ensures compliance with government health and safety regulations.

  • Manages Workers Compensation claims for the Alaska companies and First Aid/Near Miss incident administration including: reporting claims; corrective actions, monitoring claims; working with insurers, supervisors, and employees on returning to work.

  • Manages PPE/work uniform program for our Alaska companies.

  • Maintains safety files and records; submits required reporting to parent company, including monthly and annual reports, and prepares reports for management as needed, including safety KPI.

  • Establish and implement return to work program for all NorthStar companies.

  • Prepares annual OSHA logs for our Alaska companies and ensures they are posted

  • Corresponds with regulatory agencies, insurance inspectors, safety consultants, and subcontractors as required.

  • Drafts, prepares and implements business continuity plans for our Alaska companies and conducts drills of the same.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH) are a plus.

  • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in safety management or a related role, preferably in the energy or utilities industry.

  • Proven track record in developing and implementing effective safety programs.

  • In-depth knowledge of safety regulations and industry standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, NFPA).

  • Experience in conducting risk assessments, safety audits, and incident investigations.

  • Familiarity with safety management systems and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001).

  • Strong understanding of safety training principles and techniques.

  • Experience in managing safety committees and engaging employees in safety initiatives.

  • Proven ability to develop and deliver safety training programs.

  • Excellent communication, leadership, and influencing skills.
