Job Details
The Director of Risk Management/Privacy Officer provides leadership and direction for a comprehensive Risk Management, High Reliability Patient Safety Program.
Responsibilities will include:
Promoting safety for patients and staff and mitigating risk for the organization, including oversight of Patient Safety Program
Demonstrating fiscal accountability and aligning operational and financial results
Identifying and communicating regulatory requirements
Developing the strategy for the implementation and maintenance of risk reduction activities
Designing, implementing and maintaining a direct referral system for staff to report unexpected events and potential claims
Overseeing the reporting of potential claims and suits to the appropriate carriers/TPA
Monitoring high risk medical malpractice cases and overseeing requests for discovery from defense counsel
Attending claims review meetings and participating with CHS RM regarding disposition of cases
Identifying and reporting events meeting DOH definition for NYPORTS
Reviewing safety event data from safety event reporting databases (Midas)
Collaborating with healthcare teams to rapidly identify risk, and employ prevention and reduction strategies
Demonstrating expertise and leads root cause analysis of serious safety events
Overseeing the dissemination of patient safety reports to key stakeholders, and implementation of patient safety/high reliability education
Promoting a culture where errors are openly discussed and used as learning opportunities
Conducting patient safety rounds to gather information and educate staff on a regular basis
Resolving issues of importance to risk management including informed consent, DNY, FHCDA, withdrawal of life support, etc.
Communicating and coordinating with health professionals, defense counsel and others regarding the receipt, investigation and resolution of incidents and potential claims
Assisting in mitigation of patient complaints; while coordinating GSHMC responses
Overseeing and participating in the patient grievance process and product recall process
Preparing material necessary for renewal of primary and excess insurance policies
Coordinating worker's compensation cases, and implementation of strategies to improve occupational health programs
Serving as Privacy Officer: conducting monthly risk assessments rounds, investigating and reporting all HIPAA incidents, executing breach response notification letters to patient involved, tracking compliance with online HealthStream, and reviewing fair warning reports for potential HIPAA breaches
Requirements:
5+ Years Clinical Nursing (RN) experience
5+ Years of Risk Management experience; recent experience working with patient safety, quality, or insurance, with expertise in legal aspects of healthcare and general liability
Experience coordinating and writing responses to regulatory and legal inquiries
Licensure: New York Registered Nurse (RN) required
Master's degree in healthcare, business, or related field preferred
Certifications: CPHRM (ASHRM) certification required
Preferred certifications: CPPS and/or CHPC
Salary Range
USD $163,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr.
This range serves as a good faith estimate and actual pay will encompass a number of factors, including a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies and experience. The salary range or rate listed does not include any differential pay or other forms of compensation that may be applicable to this job and it does not include the value of benefits.
