The Director of Residence Life Programs is responsible for assisting in leadership and management of a diverse residential population. This position supports ongoing whole person development for professional staff, graduate assistants, student leaders, and students. Additionally, this role provides oversight for discipleship program for students, supervision of committee works within Residence Life, management of current facility work orders, and includes problem solving, conflict resolution, programming, fostering community, leadership development, crisis intervention, evaluation, and assessment.This position is primarily responsible to:

  • Testify to personal experience of salvation in Jesus Christ, affirm belief in the University's Statement of Faith, abide by and practice our Life Together Covenant, and both personally agree with and support the Foundational Documents of Taylor University.

  • Supervise and mentor Residence Life Discipleship Graduate Assistants (GAs) and student Discipleship Coordinators (DCs) on a weekly basis.

  • Lead all training and curriculum development for Discipleship GAs, Discipleship Coordinators (DCs), and Discipleship Assistants (DAs) in Residence Halls.

  • Collaborate with Campus Pastor's office to lead small group leader training.

  • Serve as the chair for Residence Life committees which include hiring (PA, DC, DA), assessment, and sexuality and the body. Hall Directors also serve as members of the committees.

  • Co-lead PA, DC, and DA class committee.

  • Assist in the hiring process for Student Development personnel, Hall Directors, Graduate Assistants, and student leaders in Residence Life.

  • Assist in the development of departmental goals and learning outcomes consistent with the mission, vision, and strategic plans of the institution, Student Development, and Residence Life.

  • Assist in student conduct and housing placement as needed.

  • Serve as the Residence Life liaison with Housekeeping and Facilities on current work orders and day-to-day facilities protocols.

  • Oversee emotional support animal protocols for residential living areas in conjunction with the AVP/Director of Residence Life and the Academic Enrichment Center.

  • Serve on the rotation for on-call, a week at a time, August 1-May 31. Assist in providing leadership in response to campus crisis situations. The responsibilities of this position require the person to be able to be contacted for basic support services, and thus this position will require a cell phone.

  • Attend Residence Life meetings and Student Development Leadership team meetings on a weekly basis.

  • Serve on departmental and university faculty committees.

  • Attend department retreats and trainings as they occur.

  • Assist with planning as well as participating in summer orientation in June for new students.

  • Submit regular reports to AVP/Director of Residence Life, respond to written and oral communications as needed for student care, board reports, email communication, proposals as needed.

  • Oversee discipleship budget expenses.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree required.
  • 4 - 7 years' experience working in a college or university residence life program, spiritual formation, discipleship, or transferrable experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise student employees and counsel individuals on a one-on-one basis regarding a variety of issues.

  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability including evaluation of crisis and emergency situations.

  • Ability to design and implement social programs for residence life audience.

  • Must be available to respond and provide basic support; required to carry a cellphone.

  • Competent in utilizing various computer software, including Microsoft Office suite.

  • Physical Demands

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.

  • Work Environment

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior / office work environment.

  • Environmental Conditions

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.
