Position Summary
The Director of Residence Life ensures a quality, caring residential community for students which supports their academic goals as well as their faith and personal development. This position works closely with the Residence Life professional staff, providing support and training to ensure the organization, coordination, supervision, and implementation of the residential housing program of the university, serving over 1200 students in multiple residence halls. This position involves budget administration and formulation of unit policies and procedures. The Director of Residence Life reports to the Vice President for Student Success.
The Director of Residence Life is an enthusiastic supporter of Lutheran higher education who exhibits Christ-centered servant leadership and a dedication to student success. This individual is responsible for ensuring that the Concordia University Wisconsin & Ann Arbor mission, vision, and core values are integrated into the daily functions of the residence life programming.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Sets the tone for the implementation of a residential environment that is positive and engaging, challenges students' growth and faith development
Plan, develop, and coordinate a residence life program designed to engage students and stakeholders in the on-campus living community
Provide response to students/staff for situations including students in crisis, student behavioral issues, student wellness, general student safety, and roommate conflicts
Receive and respond to concerns and complaints from students, parents, and/or other stakeholders
Interpret, enforce, and review policies and procedures necessary to provide a safe and secure living environment on-campus
Collaborate with the Dean of Students to address Student Conduct Code processes, policies, and violations,
Coordinate development and submission of annual maintenance and facility improvements
Identify trends and potential patterns within the housing profession, working with appropriate University stakeholders to improve or develop processes
Serve as a member of the University Good Samaritan Team (GST)
Conduct studies, surveys, and reports necessary and requested to comply with institutional or governmental requests/regulations, and student learning and satisfaction
Represent Department of Residence Life at recruiting events and new student orientation
Develop and maintain positive working relationships with other units of the University essential to the operations of the University and the Residence Life Department

Supervisory
Provide direction and support for staff development, including the recruitment, selection, training, evaluation, and supervision of staff positions with the department
Participate and provide staff with opportunities for personal growth and development through active membership and participation in professional organizations at state and regional levels
Schedule and conduct regular staff meetings with Residence Life Staff to convey information, to coordinate functions of the department
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
The ability to effectively communicate as well as manage and resolve conflict with students, administrators, faculty and staff members, and outside constituencies
Must be able to work well under pressure, work independently, take initiative and oversee a variety of projects simultaneously
Possess a high level of professionalism and maturity
Dedication to growing in cultural competency and consciousness in working with communities of underrepresented populations
Education and Experience
Must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Wisconsin & Ann Arbor
A Master's degree in higher education, counseling, or a related field
Two-five years of experience in a college or university setting; residence life experience is required.
