The Director of Real Estate Economics will report to the Chief Economist. The Economics group is part of the Data Analytic Services team within the office of the Chief Strategy Officer and is responsible for the production of economic forecasts and providing commentary on key economic drivers in both the US and global markets as well as residential and commercial real estate.
The Director will be expected to lead the development, maintainance, and enhancement of models used to generate forecasts for key macroeconomic variables such as interest rates, unemployment, income, and home prices at the national, regional, and local level. They will be expected to assess and adjust the macroeconomic forecasts to account for any relevant idiosyncratic factors, leveraging their expertise and collaborating with other subject matter experts. The role can expect to present and defend these views to senior leadership as well as external clients.

Support the development of the outlook for the US and global economy as well as the design of alternative scenarios. Perform complex analysis of economic and industry cycles to assess the impact to existing businesses and consider new strategic initiatives.
Support and answer queries from clients, senior leadership, business partners, and internal / external auditors. Monitor daily economic releases and events and stay abreast of trends in capital, mortgage, and housing markets in order to anticipate impacts to the economic outlook. Regularly benchmark outlooks against other industry economists.
Provide research and analytical support to the Chief Economist. Coordinate and develop recurring and ad-hoc research reports, country reports, as well as internal and external presentations. Provide thought leadership on model development work in support of the team's macroeconomic forecasting efforts.
Broad expertise in macroeconomics and real estate Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare and deliver executive-level presentations Exceptionally detail-oriented with the ability to synthesize large amounts of data, summarize key concepts, and clearly articulate relevant conclusions Deep quantitative, analytical, and problem solving skills Proficiency in statistical modeling techniques such as linear regression, logistic regression, GLM and other machine learning techniques Direct experience with econometric time series forecasting and the development of macroeconomic outlooks / scenarios General proficiency with statistical software (e.g., EViews, R, Python) and basic programming concepts / principles Advanced Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint) skills desired to support the presentation of data in captivating and easily consumable formats.
Outstanding interpersonal skills with experience presenting to large audiences as well as interfacing with clients and the media. Strong leader with experience managing other economists in developing insightful research and accurate forecasts.
Education & Experience:
Required knowledge and skills would typically be acquired through a Ph.D. or Masters in Economics, Econometrics, Quantitative Finance, or related field and a minimum of 5 years experience.
Preferred Education & Experience:
PhD. in Economics with 6-10 years of experience in financial services / real estate economics at a top-tier asset manager, investment bank, consulting firm, or government agency.
