The Director of Quality and Continuous Improvement (Q & CI) is responsible for customer experienced quality along the entire value chain and leading all aspects of product, process, supplier, manufacturing, field and service quality. This person will also oversee the local quality management systems. The position requires continual improvement of quality methods and processes regarding resolution of highly complex problems in collaboration with sales, product management, customer service, engineering, R&D and other key stakeholders. this individual will be responsible for driving continuous improvement processes throughout the Drives Business Unit that improves effectiveness across all functional areas. This position will be responsible for managing a direct staff of 5, with an indirect staff of 10.

Owns customer experienced quality

Defines and develops Quality and Continuous Improvement (Q&CI) strategy in line with ABB Q&CI strategy, and supports their local adoption and deployment to accelerate the rate of operational improvement across the entire value chain.

Works with Business unit management team to set coherent and aligned Q&CI priorities and targets across the entire value chain, monitor progress, analyze Q&CI Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and act on deviations from targets.

Deploys the standard quality improvement approach within all areas of the local organization to continuously improve business practices and performance. Lead continuous improvement mindset in all aspects of LBU performance

Drives application and development of group-wide best practice frameworks across the entire value chain to embed a culture of excellence in operational performance.

Develop and lead teams focused on execution of customer experienced quality along with product, process, supplier, manufacturing and field quality. Report, provide direction and action plans for key improvements in quality metrics including NPS, Customer complain resolution process (CCRP), DPPM, Warranty costs, and other quality metrics as agreed to with Local BU management

Act as focal point for customers' auditors and be responsible for ensuring the execution of corrective actions and ongoing compliance with customers' quality requirements.

Ensures the local organization has an effective management system that addresses Quality, Occupational Health & Safety and Environmental practices within the operation. Lead the development and maintenance of all ISO and other quality management systems including coordination with auditors, interpreting and applying applicable standards, internal audits, management reviews and other related management systems aspects.


Basic Qualifications:

Associates' degree and 14 years' combination experience in quality or continuous improvement or supply chain management or manufacturing


Bachelors' degree and 12 years' combination experience in quality or continuous improvement or supply chain management or manufacturing

  • A Master's Degree in required field = Credit given for 2 years of work experience.
  • A PhD/Doctorate in required field = Credit given for 3 years of work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelors' degree in engineering or related field

MBA or Masters' degree

ASQ or other quality certifications

Black Belt Six Sigma Certification

PMI Certification
10 + years quality experience in an engineering or technical environment

Large project management experience

Role Overview This position is for a Seasoned Supplier Quality professional. Works as an individual contributor to achieve objectives that have a significant impact on area of responsibility. May manage Supplier Quality & Development processes and / or projects. Uses experience and knowledge to influence supplier qualification / certification, assessment, monitoring, escape management, and quality issue resolution processes. Primary Responsibilities: * Conducts supplier qualification / certification, assessment, monitoring, escape management, and quality issue resolution processes. * Analyzes and makes recommendations on quality data and the development of part / supplier specific quality issue resolution and corrective actions. * Conducts processes and procedures for supplier qualification / certification, source inspection and material release processes, and Correction Action Boards / DQ Clinics with suppliers. * Proactively drives support for the UTC Supplier Gold and ZDP™ programs to ensure healthy continuous improvement and sustainability. * Performs ZDP™ training, reviews, reporting, and mentoring for assigned suppliers. * Reviews processes and metrics and makes recommendations to ensure supplier is capable to meet all requirements for work transfer and process change management including Resourcing Gate and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) acceptance. * Manages supplier quality issues through monitoring and escalation processes, escape management, processing of supplier submission of non-conforming material and supporting internal MRB processes. * Initiates part specific quality issue resolution and corrective actions. * Manages source inspection and material release processes. * Performs Escape management procedures, drives root cause analysis & problem solving (Red-X & 8D) and recommends corrective and preventive action for systemic process and product design problems for product provided by suppliers. * Provides research and explanations of root cause analysis & problem solving in escape management procedures. * Drives Corrective Action Boards/DQ Clinics with suppliers. * Analyzes quality data to identify systemic issues and develops supplier specific quality initiative strategies and addresses with key proactive quality tools (e.g. PFMEA, MSA, Process Flow and Control Plans, SPC, etc.), driving their implementation. * Performs supplier system and product audits to verify compliance to requirements. Basic Qualifications: This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.
