A vacancy currently exsists for a Director of Puil Services- Reading School District within the Division of Student Services of the Chester County Intermediate Unit. This is a temporary position expected to begin July 1st, 2024 and continue until June 30th, 2025, with the option for both parties to renew. An extension is possible, but is not guaranteed.

Summary of Position:
The Director of Pupil Services will direct all educational aspects of special education program housed within the Reading School District, will develop and provide programs to address needs related to special education programs, provide leadership for the district and bring expertise in staff development in areas related to special education, provide leadership for compliance issues and legal issues surrounding special education. The Director offers staffing recommendations and caseload recommendations for special education, and will manage day-to-day programming issues within the special education department- including budgetary decisions and student safety consequences.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
Master's degree in educational leadership, special education, or other related field required
Doctorate preferred
Five years of experience in the field of special education required
Supervisory & leadership experience experence strongly preferred
Comprehensive and in-depth knowledge in state & federal special education law
Technical experience in staff development, supervision and leadership, special education budget development and management, curriculum and assessment & interagency collaboration
Advanced training in all areas of special education, including works with populations with moderate to severe disabilities
Experience in creating successful evidenced based and fiscally sounds programs for special education
Professional Certifications
Supervisor of Special Education or Principal Certification required
Active PDE Educational Instructional II Special Education PK-12, School Psychology PK-12 or related Certification required
Duties & Responsibilities:
Evaluate supervisory staff performance and provide feedback that leads to positive changes in performance
Direct the ongoing evaluation of the special education instructional programs within assignment and ensure high quality educational programs for students with sound curriculum and evidence-based practices
Oversee the budgets for programs within areas of responsibility
Resolve parent/school conflicts while maintaining best interest of student and providing high quality customer service to school districts
Direct disciplinary action according to district policy, state, and federal regulations at programs
Plan, execute, and evaluate professional development programs for staff to advance program initiatives and maintain best practice
Ensure staff adherence to Federal, State, and local regulations and district organizational policies and procedures
Direct ongoing regular communication with staff including formal and informal communications at individual and group meetings and in classrooms
Make proposals for new initiatives and directives as appropriate under changing policy and philosophies at the state and local levels and facilitate program enhancement using collaborative methods with customers including staff, parents, students, agencies, school district administration and staff
Salary Range:
2023-2024 Salary Range: Administrator Staff, Level D: $135,831 - $169,788/yr.
