Director of Public Service - School of Service & Leadership
Provide leadership and direction for all degree programs in the Department of Public Services, which is part of the School of Service and Leadership (SSL) in the College of Adult and Professional Studies (CAPS). In conjunction with other SSL academic leaders, manage the development and maintenance of curricula, create new academic programs, develop systems and structures to support the programs, and supervise faculty and staff of the department.
Reports to the Dean, School of Service and Leadership.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise the full-time faculty assigned to the Department of Public Services, promote and advance research and service for full-time faculty, mentor full-time faculty on their professional development plans, oversee full-time faculty on their assigned curriculum work, guide their rank advancement process, and perform their annual review in cooperation with the Dean of the SSL.
Serve as the point of contact, problem solver, and source of information for student and/or faculty on curriculum issues within the programs. Identify and solve curriculum issues early to create strong customer satisfaction with programs.
Provide academic oversight of the department's programs to ensure they are conducted in accordance with the academic policies of the School, College, University and accrediting bodies.
Lead and provide a strategic vision for the department's programs, work with department team members on the development and implementation of program strategic goals and vision, and coordinate curriculum development of the department in collaboration with the department's faculty.
Coordinate with Regional Deans with classroom situations where faculty and/or students communicate concerns or requests.
Identify new program ideas and expand the offering of the department's degree programs while working with the Dean to steer these new program opportunities through the College's and University's academic approval process.
Lead the annual assessment of each of the department's programs to provide a strategic plan for each program. Report on the assessment data to the college and to the Dean.
Approve faculty course assignments for full-time and adjunct faculty.
Support and cultivate the growth of the school and department's international programs.
In conjunction with SSL Dean, and Regional Deans, identify new co-curricular opportunities for students, faculty, and alumni such as speaker series, workshops, community events, discipline specific organizations, or networking events.
Develop and maintain a close working relationship with Adult Enrollment Services (AES), and Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) Marketing Department, for marketing and recruiting of the department's programs.
Prepare and manage department budget with focus on achieving revenue goals and minimizing expenses.
As required, coordinate with Regional Deans situations where faculty and/or students communicate concerns or requests, grade appeals, administrative observations, Academic Exceptions, classroom evaluations of faculty, and alleged student plagiarism and cheating incidents.
Serve on School, ad hoc, and standing committees and councils as required. Attend all school meetings.
Capable of conducting research necessary to develop and revise training courses, curriculum and training programs for adjunct faculty with focus on military and veterans' needs.
Supervise support staff within the Department.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Doctorate degree preferred in a field related to programs (Public Affairs, Criminal Justice, International Relations, Security, etc.) offered in this Department.
Preferred service in a position as a Senior NCO, Warrant Officer, or Commissioned Officer in the U.S. Military receiving an honorable discharge, or experience working with military personnel in a university setting.
Demonstrated, active affiliation with state and/or national professional organizations related to one of the fields of study represented by programs offered in this Department.
Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office products.
Demonstrated knowledge of online educational delivery tools.
Demonstrated administrative abilities.
Demonstrated teaching abilities specifically with adult learners.
Demonstrated higher education experience.
Demonstrated budget management experience.
