Director of Project Management
This highly skilled professional oversees City projects, from developing the scope of work to the completion of the project, including the supervision of the project management team, contractors, vendors and City Trades' staff. The Director of Project Management reports to the Director of Public Buildings and attends meetings regularly to discuss projects and status of ongoing work. Additionally, the Director assists with evaluating and developing the deferred maintenance list of city owned facilities and 10 year building improvements plan.
This position is responsible for preparing cost estimates for potential and actual projects and monitors assigned project budget from initial appropriation to final payment. Other responsibilities include attending pre-bid meetings with the ability to clearly define the scope of work. In addition, the Director of Project Management, prepares the necessary bid and contract documents and is responsible for obtaining the necessary signatures for approval. This position also reviews bids to assure qualified bidders.
Training and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in construction or project management or a related field.
2-5 years of supervisory / project management experience or a combination of experience and training that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities required of this position.
Broad working knowledge of facilities management.
Working knowledge of applicable building, fire, electrical, and plumbing codes, as well as, knowledge of HVAC systems and designs.
Ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, contractors, and other city employees.
Excellent communication and organizational skills,
Experience in developing accurate project costs.
Ability to read design and construction plans.
Working knowledge of OSHA 1910.
Experience with word processing, working with databases, AutoCad and other engineering /architectural programs, and creating documents and forms using a personal computer.
Necessary Special Requirements:
Successful candidates must possess a valid State of Maine Class C driver's license and have a good driving record.
Must pass a criminal conviction background check, as well as a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) background check.
