Within the Video & Software (V&S) business unit at Motorola Solutions, we are solving some of the biggest challenges involving safety and physical security by developing advanced artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and products that are used to help keep people, businesses, and cities around the world safer. Our products have been installed in more than 120 countries at thousands of customer sites, including school campuses, transportation systems, healthcare centers, public venues, critical infrastructure, prisons, factories, casinos, airports, financial institutions, government facilities, and retailers.
Job Description
Reporting to the Sr. Director of Product Management (Avigilon Unity), the Director of Product Management (Avigilon Unity Video) is responsible for the market and business success of Avigilon Unity Video software solutions product portfolio. This position involves leading and managing a team of both product managers and product owners of various levels of responsibility and experience, and driving all efforts within the organization necessary to achieve the business and product goals for the Unity Video portfolio. This role works closely with other leaders in the product management organization to define the product strategy and product roadmap, communicate these broadly within the organization, and ensure that the organization executes in a manner consistent with this strategy. Collaborating and aligning with other cross-functional leaders in a matrix organization, including engineering, user experience design, marketing, and sales is another key function of this high visibility role.
Market:
Identification, qualification, and quantification of current and future market needs with insight gathered from outside of the organization
Being the voice of the market and customer within the organization
Ensuring internal stakeholders clearly understand product requirements
Deeply understanding the competitive environment and our product competitive position.
Product roadmap:
Translation of market problems into world class product innovations
Establishing the product strategy and ensuring investments and project prioritization decisions are consistent with that vision
Establishing clear product vision - the who, what, why, where, and when (but not the how) and champion that within the organization and ensure all project decisions are consistent with that vision
Creation and maintenance the product roadmap
Develop and maintenance of the business case for initiatives including revenue projections and return on investment
Product Lifecycle:
Accountable for product success in the market (revenue, margin, and market share) and achievement of business goals set out at product approval phase
Managing products through the entire product life cycle from initial concept to product end-of-life
Continually monitor product performance and take action accordingly
Overseeing product launch and ensuring the launch is impactful and effective
Establishing product pricing strategy and product pricing
Identify and maintain strategic partnerships
Represent product management activity to sales forecasting effort
Sales Support:
In collaboration with Product Marketing, ensure sales tools and technical collateral are sufficient to enable the channel to successfully position the product
Assist Sales in finding answers to questions about the product and how it should be positioned to address specific customer problems
Product Team Leadership:
Coach product team members to reach their best potential
Ensure product team members are following established ways of working, and regularly review whose practices with the cross functional leadership team to evaluate opportunities for improvement
Lead goal setting activities for the product portfolio and goal reviews during quarterly business reviews
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree required. Engineering related fields preferred.
10+ Years of work experience in Product Management with a major focus on software and SaaS
Experience leading and managing a product management team (of 10+ product managers or product owners), and ideally a team consisting of both product managers and product owners in separate roles. Track record of helping coach and level up the practices of the product management team
Experience in performance management applications (budgeting, forecasting, profitability measurement, predictive analytics, etc.)
Proven track record of leading and delivering amazing product solutions that are enthusiastically embraced by customers.
Exceptional critical thinker, decisive, ability to anticipate market trends, evaluate tradeoffs and risk in a manner that results in a well thought out strategy.
Technically competent regarding development, architecture and ergonomic user interfaces.
Strong analytical skills, financial acumen and strategic business capabilities are required.
Strong oral communication skills. Able to effectively present ideas, roadmap elements, status updates and/or proposals to upper levels of management, including non-technical staff.
Charismatic and enthusiastic when speaking about the future product direction and someone who can rally and achieve buy-in on the product vision across the organization
Ability to work well independently and as part of a diverse team spread across multiple continents and time zones in a fast-moving environment
Exceptional written communication skills in support of vision, market, business and functional requirements.
Exceptional relationship skills that support strong sustained interaction with customers, prospects, industry leaders, and the development organization.
Previous experience transforming the business model of an existing product from a bill of sale or perpetual licensing to subscription or SaaS preferred
Responsible for a product portfolio that included both software and hardware products is a plus
Physical Security Market experience preferred
