The Consumer Product Management team is the group within GreatCall that drives strategic and market needs into the consumer product and services portfolio. We work cross-functionally with multiple departments throughout the company such as Design, Engineering, PMO, Data Analytics, Care, Operations and Go-to-Market to realize products that have the ideal customer experience and business value. The team fosters a culture of innovation and encourages everyone to contribute through new ideas and insights.

ABOUT THE JOB

The Director of Product Management PERS Devices will lead the PERS devices group within GreatCall. Specifically, the Lively Mobile and Lively Wearable PERS devices as well as the Link app. The ideal candidate should have deep experience in hardware and software development and launching multiple mobile/wireless products and services to meet business goals and deliver stable, reliable, and cost-effective solutions. This individual should understand the PERS market and product solutions, have experience in a competitive subscription-based tech, media or telecom business and knowledge of the senior customer base. This person possesses strong leadership and mentoring skills in addition to collaborating with Engineering, QA and IT peers, this person also mentors 2-3 Product Managers on their team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Business Ownership and Accountability of the PERS Product line and Link app

  • Deliver business requirements, subscriber projections, business cases and detailed product plans to cross functional teams for execution

  • Provide thought leadership and executional oversight on pricing, promotion and placement of PERS products

  • Define Key Performance Indicators to track and measure success and develop plans along with Retention and Marketing teams to positively influence these success metrics

  • Lead Product Management activities to bring new product ideas to product planning councils, convince cross-functional leadership teams of strategic rationale and business benefits, secure funding to execute on product development and successfully launch products on time and in budget

  • Develop key requirements; undertake RFI/ RFP for vendor selection along with Technical Product Mgmt counterpart to develop new PERS products

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree required

Master's degree in Electrical Engineering preferred

MBA preferred

Experience:

  • Minimum 10 years' experience in tech, media or telecom industry required

  • Progressively senior roles managing technical products required

  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing people and vendor management experience required

  • Prior experience working with carrier-grade wireless technology products and services required

  • Prior experience working with device certification process with both OEMs and major US carriers required

  • Prior experience performing technical vendor qualifications of competencies and capabilities preferred

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge of wireless networks and their interaction with wireless products and services

  • Knowledge of technologies such as CDMA, LTE, VoLTE, BT, NFC, WiFi, GPS.

  • Knowledge of Embedded systems, iOS, Android, Android Wear operating systems

  • Knowledge of software development best practices

  • Knowledge of hardware system and component level:

  • Multilayer PCB, Layout, Grounding, Shielding, Noise

  • Baseband, Memory, Power/PMIC, Battery, Digital, Analog, LCDs, Sensors,

  • RF, Rx, Tx, Antennae, Matching, Sensitivity, Performance, Noise, GPS, WiFi

  • Schematics, Gerbers, Debug

  • Knowledge of hardware and software testing best practices

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Develop the Product Management Organization: * Manage and develop the product management team through recruiting, training and mentoring. * Define and improve the product development and internal research & development process. * Manage internal research & development budget. * Manage product roadmap. * Build cross-functional relationship with business development, engineering and operation teams. * Set priority and guide team in performing the production management tasks listed below: Define the products: * Collect and synthesize information from customers, partners, competitors and internal organizations such as engineering and business development teams as inputs to product concept development and product planning. * Perform market analysis for current and future products and technologies. * Develop and refine product strategy and roadmap with clear product positioning and rigorous business case support. * Perform technical and business trade-offs of various product concepts and features. * Develop and manage detailed executable product requirements based product strategy and roadmap. * Define product price target based on market analysis and product positioning. Develop the products: * Serve as the bridge between various business and technical organizations with regarding to product development and support. * Working with program management, engineering, business development and production teams to ensure successful execution of product development and release. * Ensure that products meet all key criteria, such as specified functionality, performance, manufacturability, reliability, marketability, cost targets, and sustainability. * Perform product life-cycle management. Market the products: * Support business development team in marketing product and technologies to potential customers and markets. * As the key technical interface with customers, serve as the technology evangelist in promoting innovative mobile ad-hoc networking (MANET) product and technologies. * Gain deep understanding of customer and market needs and issues, and develop the right solution with the right products to solve customer's problems. * Working with other business and technical teams, develop and maintain product pricing model. * Perform technical and non-technical support to external and internal customers. Education and Work Experience : * Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field of study required. Master's degree or higher preferred. * Past product management, product system engineering, or technical management experience. * Strong product development background in wireless communication hardware or software is a plus.
