About the Role: We are looking for a Director of Product Design to join our Peripheral R&D team. In this role, the associate will be accountable for defining product architecture and advancing product design capabilities to ensure products are developed in alignment with R&D and Operations/Supply Chain strategies that leverages and integrates technologies across product lines and across product lifecycles.
This position will be located at our facility in Flagstaff, Arizona, or in Phoenix, Arizona, with the possibility of a hybrid remote work arrangement, depending upon the responsibilities of the role and business needs.
Responsibilities:
Develop deep technical and historical knowledge of product design within the business, and stay current on industry state of the art
Develop and lead a team of experienced Design Engineers and technical Associates to advance product design capability and support NPD and commercial teams to ensure products are developed in alignment with R&D and Operations/Supply Chain strategies leveraging and integrating core, strategic, and enabling technologies across product lines
Leverage product design knowledge across product lifecycles, including concept development, NPD, and commercial manufacturing, to ensure product designs meet business needs, including all design requirements, manufacturability, and fitness for use
Collaborate with Design Assurance Leader to ensure products are developed and manufactured in accordance with customer needs, regulatory requirements, and industry standards
Collaborate with the Process Architect to develop design requirements to increase manufacturability, improve product and process reliability, and improve Operation's/Supply Chain's KPIs
Provide support to NPD and Commercial Manufacturing teams to identify and resolve product design uncertainties including support to complaint management and post market surveillance to ensure the completion of robust and timely complaint investigations related to product design
Inform Product Roadmaps and create aligned Technology Roadmaps with product, capability, and technology expertise
Drive business directed projects in alignment with Technology and Product Roadmaps
Support business and product Waterline and Risk Management activities
Establish clear expectations of equitable and inclusive behaviors from Associates and act immediately to appropriately address negatively impactful or unfair behavior
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in science or engineering
Minimum of 6 years of direct R&D experience focused on product design
Demonstrated technical depth with implantable medical devices and technologies
Demonstrated complex technical problem solving related to product design
Demonstrated experience effectively leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and ability to collaboratively influence cross functionally
Demonstrated track record of clear decision making and organizational alignment
Solid knowledge of engineering fundamentals, user requirements, and the ability to apply this knowledge to manufacturing, product design, and technology development
Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret technical data including Design of Experiments
Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining an inclusive work environment with clear understanding of equitable practices
Ability to travel up to 15% of the time
Desired Qualifications:
A minimum of 10 years direct R&D experience focused on product design or reducing technical uncertainties associated with product design
Project management skills
Experience developing technology road maps
