Job Description BAE Systems is hiring a Director of Process Safety Management (PSM). The role reports to the BAE Systems, Platforms and Services, Vice President for Safety, Health, and Environmental, and provides services to The Ordnance Systems (OSI) Business Unit. Role will drive PSM Program development and strategy, and provide a path forward to build a robust program in direct support of sites located in Radford, VA and Kingsport, Tennessee. A successful candidate should have an extensive background in Process Safety Management, and also have awareness of working with the Environmental Protection Agency's Risk Management Program. Candidate will drive safety process and program improvements; ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal regulations; ensure environmental risks are identified and mitigated; reduce the safety, health, and environmental impacts of our business; and oversees and leads efforts to meet PSM program requirements. The position will based out of the OSI - Radford, Virginia or Kingsport, Tennessee sites, and provide direct support to the Vice President and General Manager of OSI, as well as the General Managers for both OSI locations.

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with business leadership to assess gaps and provide a strategic roadmap to program improvements and support needed from business leadership.

  • Manage and consult on safety and health processes to assure proper execution of practices in accordance with applicable internal and external regulations.

  • Manage EPA-directed Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements per operations at both OSI sites

  • Manage/consult on Process Safety Management and requirements to align with OSHA and FAR requirements.

  • Participate in budget preparation, financial tracking, and monitoring progress toward department financial and budgetary goals.

  • Participate in SHE Assurance and Management Systems Audits as a lead auditor, audit team member, or as a developer of audit protocols.

  • Identify and establish needed support from external consultants, developing scopes of work and managing the work performed by those consultants.

  • Coordinate with OSI leadership to identify and resource an infrastructure roadmap that enhances and drives resiliency for PSM and RMP programs and infrastructure

  • Monitor developing PSM and RMP-related federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and risk reduction initiatives; analyze potential impacts to business system operations; and provide senior management with recommendations and approach as appropriate.

  • Develop a PSM mentorship program that provides a system to support GMs for both sites on future state service delivery and leadership

  • Lead or support change management initiatives across the business in alignment with corporate objectives and strategies.

  • Serve as a leader to a diverse employee population; train, mentor, coach, and develop team.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in SH&E, Chemical Engineering, or other natural science/technical discipline and 12 years of experience or equivalent experience

  • Experience in Safety, Health, and Environmental Management

  • Experience in Operations/Program Management

  • Experience in People Management/Leadership

  • Experience leading organizations in a manufacturing environment

  • Experience in Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Programs (RMP)

  • Experience in ISO Management Systems (9001, 14001, or 45001)

  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and personnel at operating facilities

  • Ability to support process improvement and change management

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

  • Advanced Degree in the disciplines of SHE, Engineering, Natural Sciences, or Business Management a plus

  • Certified Professional Engineer, Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist designation a plus

  • Experience in a geographically-dispersed, multi-plant environment a plus

  • Experience in a Union environment a plus

  • Experience working with the Department of Defense or U.S. Government a plus

  • Experience in Chemical Manufacturing industry is a plus

Pay Information

Full-Time Salary Range: $151300 - $257200

Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
