Job Summary
As a member of the Financial Development Team, the Director of Philanthropy, Major Gifts and Capital, will be responsible for creating the philanthropic strategy and objectives for major gifts and campaigns. Responsibilities will include working with a portfolio of individuals to acquire, cultivate, solicit, and steward capital and major gifts of $10,000 or higher. Responsible for working with volunteers on a comprehensive and aggressive campaign plan structure that will maximize capital and major giving opportunities. This Director will lead the strategy to future develop a culture of philanthropy to advance major and capital giving programs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time position, working Monday through Friday with occasional nights and weekends as needed.

Hiring Range: $85,000 - $100,000/annually
Responsibilities
Plans, coordinates, manages and strengthens the Association-wide Annual Campaign with emphasis on campaign preparation, trainings, reporting, communication and marketing materials.
Partners with Branch Executives and key staff to provide leadership and support to branch staff with regard to volunteer development, relationship building, Annual Campaign strategies rooted in best practices and training.
Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates and supervises the Donor Relationship & Events Manager. Ensures that Association-wide events are well-planned and executed.
Supports lead staff on campaign donor relation (cultivation and stewardship) event activities.
Provides leadership to staff solicitation campaigns, including volunteer recruitment, best practices, events and goal-setting.
Develops and delivers Association trainings related to philanthropy and Financial Development, including offering "train the trainer" trainings to ensure there are multiple resources.
Adopts and ensures usage of the Donor Relationship Management system.
Partners with other AO Departments to ensure best practices, donor centered philosophy and Financial Development benchmarks are met or exceeded. Includes gift entry and acknowledgement, campaign collateral materials and online donor experience.
Works effectively with AO leadership, Branch Executives and staff to assist in campaign goal-setting and achievement.
Provides leadership and support to all aspects of the Financial Development Department.
Other duties as assigned.

Nurture and develop a robust portfolio of prospects and donors along with key engagement tactics.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment.

This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
TRAVEL
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
EFFECT ON END RESULTS
This position has primary impact on the success of the capital development and planned-giving programs of the association. Volunteers will feel well supported and recognized, and donors will be recognized and cultivated resulting in increased giving and retention in support of the YMCA and its mission.
Code of Conduct for Applicants
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in business administration, financial development, communications, public relations, human services or equivalent experience. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered. Five or more years of related experience. Experience supervising staff, working with volunteers and knowledge of nonprofit organizations and fundraising principles. Ability to produce high quality written and verbal solicitations and messaging to a broad audience. Ability to collaborate and work effectively and proactively with all levels of branch and Association Office staff. Excellent computer skills, including word processing, database, spreadsheet software and web-based applications.
PREFERRED POSITION ATTRIBUTES AND SKILLS
Prefer knowledge of, and previous experience with, diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).
Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
