Job Summary

Responsible for the short and long-term strategic plan and establishes the Pharmacy goals and objectives. Provides leadership, fosters a generation of new ideas and innovations in Pharmacy practice through staff empowerment, and leadership to achieve clinical outcomes and results. Accountable for local, state, and federal laws and regulations dealing with the practice of Pharmacy. Collaborates with stakeholder and works in a multi-disciplinary team environment to deliver effective and efficient patient care. Oversees and directs departmental activities to ensure quality services for both internal and external customers. Serves as a resource to and collaborates with others to advance the hospital mission, vision and values.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • Ph.D Graduated from an accredited school of Pharmacy

  • Pharmacist license within the State of Florida - maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

  • Pharmacist Consultant Possess or is eligible for Florida Pharmacy Consultant License

  • CPR BLS -American Heart Association BLS Maintain active and in good standing throughout employment

  • 3-5 years Pharmacy management experience in an acute care pediatric healthcare environment

  • 2-4 years Pediatric Pharmacy experience practicing as a Pharmacist

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assesses, develops, implements, and evaluates department goals to align with the Health System goals and operating cycle and effectively directs the integration of the Pharmacy Department's functions with other aspects of patient care.

  • Coordinates the departmental performance improvement process including the preparation, analysis, and submission of required reports. Maintains compliance with Health System and national safety, risk management, and infection control standards within the department and the Health System.

  • Ensures personal and professional growth and expertise by remaining current with state and federal association and with professional trends and by participating in community activities.

  • Exercise professional judgment in imparting therapeutic and drug information to patients, families, medical/clinical staff, and Health System staff and provide Pharmacist services when needed.

  • Develops, reviews, and revises departmental policies and procedures and assures medication management compliance with all state, federal, quality, and regulatory agencies.

  • Effectively communicates the department's needs, requirements, available services, and information to internal and external customers.

  • Establishes pharmacy practice models that advance the professional practice of pharmacy services and support improved patient outcomes.

  • Maintains a department staffing plan that meets organizational needs, monitors the activities of all pharmacy services, and takes appropriate action as necessary to ensure their efficient and effective operation.

  • Oversees all aspects of the medication management process and ensures compliance by departmental locations and patient care units with established safety, storage, distribution, inventory control standards, and procedures in accordance with Federal and State regulations.

  • Provide fiscal stewardship according to policies and procedures and establishes and maintains a system of records and controls for revenue integrity, pharmaceutical inventory management, and salary/supply expenses within budgeted targets.

  • Provides steward leadership for department staff related to Talent Management activities including hiring, termination, training, education, and job advancement.

  • Serves as Secretary of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and participates on other Health System committees, teams, and special projects related medication management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • ASHP Residency Preferred.

  • Experience managing a 340B Program and has a depth of knowledge of state and federal regulations.

  • Experience with DNV Pharmacy Accreditation standards.

  • Experience in the pediatric application of unit dose distribution, IV admixture, and DoseEdge

  • Proficient with pharmacy information systems and related clinical systems

  • Ability to apply in depth knowledge of pharmacy theory and practice; Pharmacy operations best practices

  • Utilized lean tools and methodologies tool; optimize business processes and drive process improvements.

  • Ability to coordinate the sequence of operations or a process.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of personnel.

  • Ability to exercise independent judgment, apply logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

  • Effectively manages and demonstrates strongly leadership skills with unplanned circumstances, demands, and challenges facing the department.
