About the location:

The Director of People & Culture spearheads the vision, strategy, and execution of People & Culture for the Four Seasons Hotel in San Francisco with additional oversight for multiple properties. This role offers direct support to Planning Committees, collaborating and providing guidance on functional issues and needs. It involves the development, direction, and oversight of all aspects of the People & Culture division. This includes benefits administration, employee relations, recruitment and retention of staff, communication with staff, career development of staff, compliance with wage and hour laws, training, workers' compensation, and legal matters pertaining to hotel employees.

  • Develop strategy and goals to lead the complexities and demands of People & Culture department.

  • Ability to consistently navigate difficulties and obstacles associated with a multi-location operation.

  • Ability to develop and lead successful partnerships with business operations, outlets, colleagues, and partners.

  • Requires a flexible work schedule to meet the demands.

  • Establish and expand People & Culture presence in an environment with a high degree of ambiguity. Meet high expectations from leadership in a fast-paced environment.

  • Developed and strong business acumen resulting in being a strong business partner with leadership at location. Ability to build relationships across diverse internal and business partners.

  • Proven experience in driving and successfully implementing change and integration and large, diverse teams

  • Capability to manage multiple projects as a business partner in and outside of the People & Culture function through an intelligent, nimble and clever business plan despite a fast-paced environment and ever-changing challenges and rewards.

  • Strategic capability to effectively communicate and influence all levels of constituencies including Planning Committees, labor relationships, and employees.

  • Proven leadership skills in translating brand culture to leadership and all employees in transformative ways.

Responsibilities:

Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Partner with properties' executive Planning Committees on people strategy.

  • Cultural advocate of the Golden Rule in every employee action.

  • Foster relationships with others in a coaching role, providing advice and suggestions that lead others to act in new and more productive ways.

  • Actively support in the brand conversion process with recruitment needs, and transition of staff and infrastructure.

  • Analyze hotel learning and development needs at all levels and create or coordinate the creation of programs designed to make employees proficient in their delivery of core and culture standards and prepare them for promotion from within.

  • Establish and implement recruitment, selection, placement and pre-employment procedures in accordance with Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts' policy and all applicable laws to include hiring, staffing guide and compensation guidelines.

  • Work to improve labor costs and productivity results in line with Four Seasons business objectives and strategies and share best practices.

  • Offer counsel to managers regarding how to handle difficult conversations and performance challenges with employees and assist in dealing with all management under performance plans.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state and local laws.

  • Develop leadership and top talent growth pathways, and direct initiatives that focus on succession planning, diversity and inclusion.

  • Create a comprehensive annual divisional budget with an emphasis on recruiting, employee relations and learning and development.

  • Champion a working environment consistent with those companies on the Fortune Magazine "100 Best Places to Work For" list.

  • Engage with local professional organizations to maintain an understanding of possible changes to City and State labor laws.

  • Manage the annual review of wages and salaries to ensure market-leading compensation and pay equity.

  • Foster a strong, progressive relationship with local union.

Skills/Qualifications:

Ideal candidate will have:

  • Three to five years of experience at a P&C Director level position with Four Seasons or other organization.

  • Requires a solid working knowledge of Labor laws and has generally learned on-the-Job or through a series of professional certifications. Knowledge of CA labor laws.

  • Experience in a union environment, handling grievances, negotiations, etc.

  • Requires knowledge of operating HR systems and computer software and HR/Payroll systems

  • Must be able to read, speak and write English.

  • Scheduled days and times may vary based on need.
