Excellent opportunity to join our high quality, family centered burn pediatric surgical specialty care hospital with Harvard affiliation and pioneering research.

We have an immediate need for an experienced Nurse Executive. This senior management position requires a wide range of leadership and professional abilities. We are looking for a seasoned nurse executive who is confident, decisive yet flexible, able to mentor developing leaders and has a supportive approach to staff in the face of significant change.

Advanced problem solving and analytical skills with proven experience in transformational change is preferred.

The position has responsibility for all clinical patient care units and has ten direct reports. Candidate shall possess strong understanding of patient care delivery models, healthcare policy, healthcare financing, outcome measurement and risk management.

The candidate of choice will demonstrate the ability to use systems thinking, change management and have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in leading patient safety and quality initiatives as well as a continuous state of regulatory readiness. The position reports directly to the Hospital Administrator with a dotted line to the SHC Chief Nursing Officer.

Broad nursing and hospital experience is necessary. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience in Care Management, Outpatient Practice Management, Critical Care and Performance Improvement. You will play a key role in assessing, planning and developing systems to support the hospitals strategic plan along with developing new strategic initiatives.

Considerable independent judgment is required to carry out assignments that have significant impact on emerging or established service lines. The Nurse Executive candidate will possess strong communication skills and excel in relationship building and managing.

She/he will promote an environment conducive to opinion sharing. Experience collaborating with a seasoned medical staff is essential; working collaboratively with the Chief of Staff is essential for success of delivering medical and surgical care safely and the successful candidate will effectively demonstrate experience and outcome with physician leaders. Participation in community-based events is also part of our expectations.

Job Requirements

Must have current RN license for state of MA, BSN and be mastered prepared or in process. Advanced certification highly desirable.

Must have 7-10 years of experience in a leadership role in an acute care hospital, solid clinical knowledge base and comfortable working in a matrix organization.

Maintains effective communication with all nursing and other hospital personnel; physicians, board members and stakeholders; strives for the advancement of the nursing profession within the community and on the local, state, and national level.

Maintains awareness of legislation affecting nursing practice and implements practice or process changes as needed; acts as a resource person for the hospital related to nursing standards and practices.

The Clinical Nursing directors and Professional Development Managers have a direct reporting relationship to the Executive Director. The Executive Director is the nursing leader within the service line leadership triad (the service line physician leader, the administrative director and the nursing executive director).# Works collaboratively with other disciplines and departments to ensure that all strategic program planning and execution of operations are fully integrated to ensure they are patient/family centered, team oriented, safe and quality outcome driven. Accountable for the effective coordination of human, fiscal and material resources within all aspects of the service line(s). Reports to the Chief Nursing Officer and Sr. VP of Patient Care Services and may act on behalf of the Senior Vice President in her/his absence.# Participate with the Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Vice President in strategic planning, goal setting, program development and establishment of outcomes and methods of measurement.## # Responsibilities: Serves as the nursing leader within the service line triad. Collaborates with administrative and clinical colleagues in strategic planning and the development and evaluation of business plans, clinical programs and services. Accountable for all aspects of nursing programs of care within the division.# Guides and carries out the philosophy, goals and objectives of the department as well as the mission of the institution.# Leads and implements standards of care and provide direction and consultation to others in developing policies for Nursing practice. Serves as a leader in patient safety and quality within service line and medical center. Collaborates with department of Quality and risk management to identify actual or potential risks and eliminate them. . Participates in and provides leadership in the development of a programmatic approach to care programs and outcomes management, focusing on patient safety, clinical outcomes, patient access and throughput, functional outcomes, patient satisfaction and financial outcomes. Manages the MNA contract to ensure that the rights of management and employees are supported and that the contract is implemented as defined. Interviews and selects Clinical Nursing Directors and Professional Development Managers.# In collaboration with these leaders, assesses their professional strengths and provides growth opportunities.# Supports their plans for professional self-development. Participates in the selection process of Director of Clinical Education.# Works collaboratively with the Directors, Professional Development Managers and Advanced Practice Nurses to develop and supports innovation, educational and clinical projects within the clinical division and Nursing Department.# Serve as primary resource to Clinical Nursing Directors in the development of their leadership skills, ability and attributes. Seeks every opportunity to further the development of the profession practice of nursing. Serves as primary resource in the development of systems that promote continuity of care and accountability for practice. Collaborates with Vice Presidents to identify appropriate non-clinical supports for the delivery of safe, effective patient/family care and to ensure that clinicians have available to them the necessary supports to carry out their clinical responsibilities. Assesses environmental needs, including the need for equipment and supplies that support the delivery of safe, effective patient and family care.# Works with appropriate colleagues to ensure availability, accessibility and effectiveness of such resources. Remains aware of current laws governing nursing practice in Massachusetts and ensure compliance. Maintains an awareness of regulations and laws governing the provision of health care. Participates in regulatory agency reviews and ensures compliance with regulations. Remains current through the nursing and health-related literature.# Supports a spirit of inquiry and innovation in practice.
