Position Summary

Dallas College seeks a dynamic, visionary individual to play an important leadership role within the School of Education's (SOE) Center for Transforming Alternative Preparation Pathways (CTAPP). CTAPP supports alternative certification programs (ACPs) across the state with the mission to implement high-quality, sustainable teacher preparation programming for its partners. As a result of partnership, ACPs will produce novice teacher candidates who demonstrate positive impact and mirror the PK-12 student demographics where they intend to teach. The Director of Partnerships will work with a variety of stakeholders to support CTAPP's mission and vision for equitable access to high-quality teacher preparation.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong commitment to teacher education, educator preparation, teaching and learning, and continuous improvement. The candidate will also have a strong track record of effective leadership experience at the PK-12 level, at the ACP program leader-ship level, and/or the undergraduate or graduate level at an institution of higher education (IHE). The candidate has experience in teaching or designing a wide variety of teacher preparation courses aimed at novice teacher candidates and enthusiasm for supporting and collaborating with EPPs.

The Director of Partnerships will work with the Associate Dean of Educator Certification to over-see and lead elements of sustainability and programming for the technical assistance transformation center, CTAPP. The individual will support various educator preparation programs (EPPs) participating in the Transformation Fellowship and local education agencies (LEAs) for our region and across the state of Texas to implement sustainable programming and provide technical assistance to do so. The ideal candidate commits to scaling high-quality teacher education, sustaining programming best practices, impacting PK-12 students and communities, and using data to make program-level decisions.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

The complex role of Director of Partnerships requires a skilled individual who can both serve and coordinate multiple constituencies. The individual in this position is the primary spokesperson and advocate for CTAPP in its collaboration efforts with various partners and stakeholders. In this role, the Director will ultimately drive the strategic vision for partnering with both ACPs and the PK-12 LEAs that they serve.

The Director of Partnerships will also need to champion the resource needs of the ACP partners and ensure the effective use of current resources. The ideal candidate must promote quality programming at ACP partners while ensuring they remain alert to the need for program revision. The Director must also have a deep understanding of Texas state teacher licensure requirements and guidelines as established by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) and, a familiarity with the operations and purposes of the Texas Education Agency.

The ideal candidate will build and maintain transformational relationships with SOE leadership, external ACP partners, PK-12 LEAs, philanthropic funders, and other stakeholders while cultivating positive and productive collaboration.

Must be able to:

  • Articulate the purpose of alternative certification programs and their role in the teacher preparation pipeline.

  • Display the capacity to understand how the various technology systems work together.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in the use of quantitative and qualitative data to drive systemic and strategic changes that are needed to improve teacher educator, novice teacher candidate, and PK-12 student experiences in the classroom.

  • Respond appropriately to issues in a dynamic, rapidly changing educational/economic environment.

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with various internal and external stakeholders.

  • Exhibit knowledge of project management, including working in a fast-paced environment that require addressing multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Self-direct multiple ongoing projects, with the capacity to design one's own workflow.

  • Express excellent leadership skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

  • Exhibit excellent time management, organizational and problem-solving skills.

  • Extensive knowledge of teacher preparation programming and the current local, state, and national education landscape.

  • Demonstrate success with program development or re-design and continuous improvement efforts in education through leadership, scholarship, teaching, and/or service.

A knowledgeable, skillful, and innovative leader who achieves outstanding results, who knows the importance of robust teacher preparation programming, and who sustains and leads visionary change for partner ACP programs and corresponding LEAs.

Key responsibilities of this leader include (but are not limited to):

  • Working to sustain high-quality teacher preparation to meet the needs of alternative certification educator preparation programs across the State of Texas.

  • Contributing to various Communities of Practice regarding technical assistance best practices, regional teacher preparation pipelines, innovative staffing design, and sustainable teacher residency models.

  • Serving on the CTAPP leadership team and providing input to support the implementation of CTAPP's vision, mission, purpose, strategic priorities; the partnership and sustainability of programs; and the execution of the technical assistance center growth, reach sustainability, and scale.

  • Collaborating with educator preparation program partners across Texas to implement special initiatives based on their technical assistance needs.

  • Learning best practices for providing technical assistance to educator preparation programs and program leaders from technical assistance centers across the nation.

  • Codifying and executing a comprehensive approach to supporting and developing alternative certification educator preparation programs in the State of Texas.

  • Providing guidance and management to support grant outcomes and budget benchmarks for all educator preparation program partners as well as the technical assistance center.

  • Gathering and reporting technical assistance and teacher preparation program sustainability and partnership data to the funder.

  • Giving and receiving frequent feedback horizontally and vertically while embodying a growth mindset.

  • Travel both across the state of Texas to support partner ACPs and engage with relevant stakeholders.

  • Responding to additional requests or assignments from supervisor.

  • Completes required Dallas College Professional Development training hours per academic year.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant subject matter plus three (3) years of experience in a leadership role focused on bringing systemic change in teacher preparation and program coordination in higher education and/or in the PK-12 teacher preparation space.

  • Public school experience as a PK-12 teacher, administrator, and/or teacher preparation program leader at an EPP or IHE is required.

  • PK-12 teacher licensure and an understanding of Texas State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) rules and regulations.

  • Official transcripts will be required

  • Must have valid driver's license.

  • Bilingual or multi-language skills preferred.

  • Will be subject to a criminal background check. Some positions may be subject to a fingerprint check.
