Job Description

General Purpose

Provide leadership and direction for SCH Hospital Operations by ensuring that safe, quality, cost effective, and compassionate care is provided to patients, their families and customers. Represents SCH Hospital at various operational, safety, nursing and/or Medical Staff meetings and various professional organizations. Maintains sound organizational relationships and shared decision making with the Hospital(s) Board, the Administrative Team, Physicians, Department managers and all Stakeholders. Develops, implements, and evaluates long and short-term goals for hospital operations as well as for assigned departments. Responsible for directing, planning and facilitating process improvements in a safe, reliable environment that promotes quality care and optimal patient outcomes within the constraints of available resources for assigned departments. On an ongoing basis, evaluates hospital operations and ensures performance is implemented via established professional practice model for the Health System and initiates revisions as necessary. Assists the President and Chief Nursing Officer in the overall administration and coordination of hospital activities and is a key member of the SCH Hospital Leadership team.

Essential Duties

  • Plans, implements, directs, delegates and evaluates operations throughout departments and organization.

  • Performance Improvement/Quality: coordinates operational and/or clinical performance improvement projects including education, standardization, execution, and sustainability.

  • Provides leadership and development of innovation/education utilizing evidence-based practices.

  • Participates in the development of the hospital's long-range strategic plan and annual operating and financial plans.

  • Leads the development and implementation of assigned Departments'/Divisions' long-range plans.

  • Stays current with projected hospital operations/nursing trends, areas of deficiency, and significant activities in hospital operations, nursing and healthcare professions.

  • Facilitates the development of a collaborative relationship between the medical, ancillary and nursing staff.

  • Represents the facility in the community, educational institutions, and professional nursing and/or hospital operations organizations.

  • Maintains full compliance with all regulatory agencies.

  • In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer, develops a safety and patient-care climate and culture which is consistent with the mission and values of the organization and communicates the mission and vision throughout the facility.

  • Promotes consistent, open, two-way communication.

  • Promotes healthcare education and research efforts, serves as the liaison with various educational programs, and is responsible for determining and maintaining safety competence for all staff.

  • In conjunction with the SCH Hospital Leadership team, develops short and long-range goals for nursing services that support and reflect the Hospital's strategic plan.

  • Conducts recruits, screens, interviews and hires new Caregivers

  • Mentors, and evaluates department supervisors/staff and assists in their ongoing assessment and development, providing corrective action when appropriate.

  • In conjunction with department staff prepares annual budget for patient care area and monitors compliance to the budget. Assesses and analyzes care delivery systems/practices, and their cost-effectiveness.

  • Continually monitors quality and customer satisfaction and initiates changes to ensure ongoing improvement.

  • Responds to all emergencies and disasters within the organization, maintaining documentation and reporting compliance to appropriate Committees

Job Requirements

General Requirements • Certification in Healthcare Management/Healthcare Executive preferred Work Experience • Minimum of four (4) years' experience in inpatient and/or outpatient hospital operations. • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive leadership experience • LEAN, Six Sigma or Process Improvement preferred • Safety and Emergency Management preferred • Experience with Magnet/Pathways to Excellence designation/re-designation preferred • Experience with Joint Commission accreditation/reaccreditation preferred • Union workforce experience (if Community Hospital has represented Caregivers) preferred Education • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing/Health Profession or related field • Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Nursing/Health Profession or related field, or must obtain within (3) years of obtaining this position Specialized Knowledge and Skills • Demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, including effective interpersonal skills. • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and strong attention to detail. • Computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office software. • Excellent critical thinking skills. • Extensive clinical practice and leadership skills. • Knowledge of regulatory standards
