Department Overview

Reporting directly to Vice President for Women & Children Services (Healthcare), in partnership with the Clinical Chairs, Medical Directors, CNO and administrative leadership, this position directs operational excellence and ensures strategic alignment for patient care services in OHSU's full-service Women's & Children's Hospital. Supports a division with over 145 pediatric beds, 940 FTE and 1129 health care workers.

Collaborates with OPP, SOM, University and Healthcare leadership to ensure high quality patient care. The Director is responsible for business deployment, leadership, operations improvement, decision-making, financial planning, forecasting, and project execution. Manages clinical, professional and support service programs within Doernbecher (DCH).

Director provides operational leadership and administrative support for Cardiac Program, Pediatric Behavioral Health, Novel Interventions in Children's Healthcare (NICH) Program, Leading Emerging Adults in Understanding and Navigating Challenges in Healthcare (LAUNCH) Program, Cleft and Craniofacial Program, Pediatric to Adult Transition (PAT) Program. Additionally, provides direct oversight of operations for the Doernbecher Pediatric Echo Lab and Pediatric Dental Program. Serves as a liaison to Shriner's Children's Hospital and centrally managed services; DCH outreach vehicles, Baby Steps publication, DCH Foundation, marketing & communications, volunteers and regulatory compliance.

Liaison for Professional & Support Services (PSS) comprised of: Respiratory Therapy Services, Transgender Health Program, Environmental Services, Patient Experience, Food and Nutrition Services, Neurosciences Service Line, Clinical Transplant Services, Rehabilitation Services, Transportation Support Services, Healthcare Facilities, Diagnostic Imaging, Laboratory Services, and Clinical Technology Services. Facilitates operational performance related to quality, safety, patient experience, financial accountability, process improvement and support service outcomes at all Women's & Children's sites of care.

Oversees planning, organization and implementation of new patient care services/programs within Women's and Children's.Provides leadership support for facility improvements: program and facility design, construction oversight and operational implementation.

Ensures intra-disciplinary collaboration among staff and leadership to optimize care and work environment; works with physician and administrative partners to maximize business objectives, sets priorities in accordance with overall institutional goals and departmental objectives. Ensures the provision of quality patient/family centered care modalities for assigned projects or areas.

Function/Duties of Position

Strategic and Leadership:• Reports to VP Women's & Children's to provide strategic alignment and operational excellence • Participates in system level leadership to develop programs/relationships with both internal and external partners inclusive of work under nondisclosure agreements including exploring partnership opportunities with other institutions outside of OHSU. • Conducts business program analysis including program evaluation and financial assessment• Develops new facilities planning and operational readiness• Primary DCH liaison for OHSU/DCH Foundation; organize all VIP events, donations and activities at DCH.• Analyzes data to determine performance initiative priorities that improve care delivery modes for Women's & Children's• Leads the formulation of goals, objectives, and specific strategies related to division level priorities• Develops strategies to communicate, implement, and evaluate the division's and OHSU's overall strategic plan

Operational Leadership:• Directs business operations for Women's & Children's, in partnership with the VP of Professional and Support services, in the inpatient and outpatient care environment including pharmacy, lab, radiology, respiratory therapy, physical therapy/occupational therapy, environmental services, clinical technology services, and others• Administrative Leader for Cardiac program• Administrative Leader for Pediatric Behavioral Health program bringingtogether psychology, acute care, critical care, nursing, public safety, facilities, psychiatry, social work, quality management in both the inpatient and outpatient environment • Administrative Leader for Pediatric Dental Program• Administrative Leader for the Cleft and Craniofacial Program• Administrative Leader for NICH Program• Administrative Leader for NICH LAUNCH Program• Administrative Leader for PAT Program• Administrative Liaison for Shriner's Hospital• Facilitates monitoring and controlling of operational performance related to quality, safety, patient experience, financial accountability, process improvement for all care sites • Develops and expands the team's intellectual capacity through mentorship on project management best practices to ensure productivity and results, collaborates with DCH Strategy Project Manager• Collaborates with the interprofessional team to promote the continuity of operations across timelines with documented key performance indicators and success criteria• Balances the value of relationships and the need to achieve organizational goals and objectives • Promotes a climate of open communication and the free exchange of ideas from all levels in the origination, including leveraging huddles for real time improvement for front line staff

Financial Management:• Partner with Hospital Financial Services in the development of business plans including pro formas defining project revenue, expenses and overalland ongoing project ROI • Supports VP and Finance Manager on Action OI and cost benchmarks for all care sites • Mentors leaders in the analysis of financial data and effective resource utilization• Identifies opportunities for cost savings and efficiencies related to improved product, service and process standardization and utilization by appropriately assisting in the evaluation, analysis, selection, monitoring, and implementation of cost-effective products, services, and processes in the healthcare system• Develops systems to monitor and measure affordability outcomes within areas of control • Provides oversight in the budgeting process by supporting the planning, acquisition and allocation of resources• Identifies, writes, and leads grant-writing efforts that benefit Doernbecher missions and programs within the Director of Operations portfolio. Ensures timely completion of affiliated reports for awarded grants and works closely with OPAM and the OHSU Foundation as needed.

Special Projects:• Participation and completion of projects as assigned by the VP of Women's & Children's Services• Baby Steps anticipatory guidance platform resulting in an average of 10K+ interactions/week with over 5,000 patients represented in pediatrics and adult healthcare• Doernbecher Outreach Vehicle Program• Operational grant writing to fund DCH projects• Staff Appreciation events• Other ad hoc projects

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in related field • Master's degree in health care administration (or related field) Experience • Minimum of 10 years' business experience • Minimum of 5 years of progressive administrative experience in healthcare-related environment in a leadership role • Minimum of 5 years of management experience • Minimum of 3 years of experience in clinical operations experience Possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills, including the ability to speak in large groups. • Project Management experience in Healthcare setting. • Strong analytical abilities and research skills. • Demonstrated leadership skills including cross functional relationship building, team facilitation, coaching and mentoring, performance management and positive reinforcement.• Ability to work independently and prioritize work in order to meet short deadlines. •Requires demonstrated effectiveness in influencing others without having direct lines of authority. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Qualtrics, REDCap, • Understanding of OHSU organizational and cultural structure• Grant writing and grant management experience
