Position Summary:

The Director of Facilities, Safety, and Security at Bastyr University is responsible for overseeing campus facilities maintenance, safety compliance, capital projects, space planning, and budget management. This role involves coordinating and managing various teams within the Facilities department to ensure the efficient and effective operation of the university's physical infrastructure. The Director also collaborates with leadership, regulatory agencies, and other departments to promote cooperation, implement safety measures, and develop strategic facilities plans.

Essential Responsibilities:

Essential Job Duties

  • Oversee all campus facilities maintenance, contract custodial, and grounds maintenance groups to support the educational and research missions of the university.

  • Ensure the safety of the campus community and property through the implementation of comprehensive safety and HIPAA compliance programs.

  • Direct the maintenance of facilities by supervising clinic facilities, providing necessary supplies, managing building maintenance, and coordinating telephone and voicemail support.

  • Plan, develop, and oversee the budgeting, negotiation, and construction of campus capital projects.

  • Facilitate space planning activities through room use analysis, digital floorplan management, and collaboration with key stakeholders.

  • Manage administrative support for the Facilities department, including supervision of an administrative assistant.

  • Develop and manage facilities expense and capital budgets.

  • Develop strategic facilities plans to accommodate the university's future needs.

  • Oversee the Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) program, including training, response protocols, and distribution of manuals.

  • Coordinate transportation and parking issues through the Parking and Transportation Coordinator.

Other Responsibilities

  • Respond to CPR and First Aid calls on a shared basis with other Facilities employees.

  • Provide guidance to Bastyr leadership regarding facilities issues and planning.

  • Ensure compliance with necessary regulatory requirements by working with regulatory agents.

  • Promote cooperation among Bastyr departments and facilitate effective communication.

  • Provide motivation and training experiences to foster a cohesive and efficient team.

  • Schedule building inspections with outside regulatory agencies and coordinate vendor certifications and tests.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Requirements:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong leadership experience in facilities management.

  • Solid knowledge of construction practices, contract negotiation, project management, budgeting, and vendor relations.

  • Proficiency in building and grounds maintenance.

  • Customer service-oriented with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to plan and execute construction projects from inception to completion.

  • Skilled in systems improvement and process analysis.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Knowledge of space planning concepts and criteria.

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Effective collaboration and delegation abilities.

  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in computer applications for word processing, spreadsheet management, and data analysis.

  • Preferably able to report to Bastyr for emergencies within 30 minutes.

  • Preferably able to respond to CPR and First Aid calls on a shared basis with other employees.

Experience

  • Three years of progressively responsible, advanced facilities management experience.

  • Three years of progressively responsible safety management experience.

  • Space planning/analysis experience is desirable.

Preferred Education

  • Bachelor's degree in facilities and safety management or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Boiler license preferred.
