Seeking a Director of Nursing for Surgical Services

Exciting opportunity for an innovative Director of Nursing at Bryn Mawr Hospital that would oversee the perioperative services departments. This position would report to the Regional Vice President of Patient Care Services.

The Director of Nursing for Surgical Services would be responsible for but not limited to:

  • The managerial functions of setting strategic initiatives, objectives, budgetary and financial responsibility, staffing and directing activities of assigned areas of responsibilities.

  • Partners with the Regional Vice President of Patient Care Services in the strategic implementation of system goals.

  • May assume administrative responsibility for designated areas in the absence of the Regional Vice President of Patience Care Services.

  • Implements the strategic plan providing direction for the nursing department, shared decision-making initiatives at the hospital and system levels to support a superior patient experience.


1.Minimum of 5 years progressive experience in Nursing Administration, prior management experience required. Director-level experience preferred.

2.Operating Room clinical experience required.

4.Knowledge of administrative concepts, organizational behavior, management processes, understanding group dynamics as they pertain to health care organizations.

5.Knowledge of current national nursing practices.

6.Ability to lead change, build & lead teams, and develop & maintain inter-professional relationships with senior executives and physicians.

7.Maintains executive competence in speaking and writing.


1.MSN or other related Masters Degree required. (must be completed or in-process)

2.Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Licensures & Certifications:

1.A current RN license.

2.CNOR certification highly preferred.

We are looking for an APP with a 5+ years of clinical and 2+ years of leadership experience in Orthopaedic Surgery, a large and growing surgical service at Pennsylvania Hospital. The Ortho patient services are covered by Advanced Practice Providers (NPs/PAs) 24/7. This position will be 60% clinical and 40% administrative. Responsibilities include (but not limited to) providing inpatient care for patients who are undergoing or who have undergone orthopedic surgery. There is a growing need for assisting in the OR as our program continues to expand. Management responsibilities will include but not limited to hiring, performance evaluations, growth and mentoring surgical APPs, as well as forward thinking in the design, staffing, and processes of the Inpatient Orthopedic Service Line. The PA-C/CRNP will provide quality care across the continuum working collaboratively with the physicians, fellows, Director of APPs, and other APPs to achieve a team centered approach to comprehensive patient care for our patients. This position requires a high level of independence but is well supported with collaborative practice and multi-disciplinary practice model as well as administrative support. The high acuity clinical practice setting is dynamic, fast- paced, and high pressure. Excellent critical thinking skills, organizational, communication skills, and strong medical, pharmacology, nursing, medical knowledge are essential. In this role there will also be a tremendous professional growth potential and the opportunity to participate in Penn Medicine's tripartite mission of clinical care, research, and education. All of our Physician Assistants and Acute Care Nurse Practitioners function under the guidelines as designed by the Pennsylvania Hospital medical staff guidelines and are credentialed through that body. The APP Manager, Surgical Services hired by the Department of Advanced Practice will be held accountable through a formal job description, through the delineation of privileges, and through their supervisory/collaborative agreement with their supervising/collaborating physician. The Advanced Practitioner, while providing quality care across the continuum in collaboration with physicians, nursing staff and other members of the care team, performs histories, physicals, and procedures according to credentialing, and provide care and patient/family teaching. Also participates in research as appropriate, ensures regulatory compliance, documents care according to standards, and prescribes in accordance with the collaborative agreement and State regulations.
