This is a salaried position based on experience. A Day in the Life as the Director of Nursing

As the director of nursing, you arrive each day ready to take the nursing program above and beyond. You get to participate in a variety of activities each day, both administrative and hands-on.

You plan, develop, and implement the entire RAI process. You maintain compliance with federal, state, and local standards and regulations.

You supervise the RNs, LPNs, and CNAs in carrying out the process. Through your excellent leadership, a culture of positive energy, quality care, and personal service pervades the nursing department. You are accountable for their training and performance and inspire them to reach new heights of excellence each day.

You coordinate the nursing services with the other departments. You accompany physicians when attending patients.

You attend or conduct patient care conferences. You ensure the full staffing and efficiency of the nursing department. You work with a budget and oversee the inventory of supplies and equipment.

You enjoy using your experience as an RN to put together a great program and mentor others along their nursing career path. You truly love your job and come home each evening feeling great about the lives that are positively impacted by your nursing staff!


  • Current registration as a registered nurse in the state of Minnesota

  • Valid CPR Certificate

  • Must be able to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. Must qualify for employment, after criminal background study, per guidelines of Minnesota Department of Human Services.

  • Training or the ability to get training within the first 12 months of employment in rehabilitation, geriatric nursing, nursing service administration, leadership, and psychiatric nursing.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time position with a wonderful set schedule of Monday-Friday 8am-4:30 pm.

The ADON oversees, facilitates and manages occupational health and staff development functions within the facility. The occupational health element of this position includes infection control, coordinating all elements of the employee injury management process, health care worker health programs and resident/employee safety. The ADON is responsible for surveillance, maintaining records, data collection, and assessment, evaluation of Incident Reports, reporting to Safety Committee, Infection Control Committee, and Quality Assessment/Assurance Committee. The ADON also facilitates staff development through orientation, hands-on training, competency evaluations, preceptorships, and audits. The ADON promotes quality care through the development of knowledge, skills and aptitude of staff. AA/EOE Duties: Assists the Director of Nursing in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes resident rights. Assists the Director of Nursing in the development, implementation and evaluation of facility policies, procedures and guidelines on an annual and on-going basis. Manages Workers Compensation records, processes claims and provides case management. Coordinates and oversees Employee-Right-To-Know and AWAIR Programs. Participates in infection control campaigns. Participates policy and procedure development pertaining to infection control, Workers Comp, Safety, Quality Assurance and Emergency preparedness. Coordinates and facilitates orientation, preceptor, mentor and leadership programs. Maintains Education records for employees. Qualifications: Must be a Registered Nurse, currently licensed by the State of Minnesota, who has training in rehabilitation nursing, gerontology, nursing service administration, management, supervision and psychiatric or geriatric nursing before or within the first twelve (12) months after appointment as Director of Nursing Services. Must be employed full time, no less than 35 hours per week, and be assigned full time to the nursing services of the nursing home. Must possess the ability to communicate verbally and in writing when directing the care of residents. Must be able to perform essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
