JOB SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for the overall direction of the nursing department; subject to rules and regulations promulgated by government agencies. The DON administers, directs and coordinates services and activities of the nursing department to assure that the highest degree of quality is consistently provided to residents, patients and other customers. Serves as the "person-in-charge" in the absence of the Administrator

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Works in collaboration with the Administrator in implementing center objectives as determined by governing body

  • Provides oversight of all clinical processes, ensuring compliance with regulations, rules and company standards

  • Contributes to the development and revision of policies, procedures, guidelines, tools and systems that govern and guide center practices

  • Participates with Interdisciplinary Team in admissions, transfer tracking, discharges, referrals and similar activities

  • Ensures good infection control practices, tracking and trending

  • Promotes maintenance of positive clinical outcomes through daily rounds; program maintenance; coordination of departments and systems; regular contact with residents, patients and family members; and attendance at varying times

  • Conducts audits, reports, reviews and rounds to promote system stability and compliance

  • Works in collaboration with physicians, pharmacists, practitioners, therapists and other professional individuals in ensuring care and services meet or exceed professional standards

  • Serves as a mentor and role model for clinical staff in center. Provides leadership. Facilitates service and care of the highest standard

  • Participates in and leads hiring, educating, disciplining, evaluations and termination of nursing personnel

  • Assists in tracking and addressing attendance issues

  • Ensures mandated reporting of abuse, neglect and misappropriation of funds are conducted according to guidelines, serves as back-up to Administrator in this role

  • Oversee clinical risk management activities, meetings, actions; follow-up as indicated

  • Conduct audits following admission, transfer, discharge of patients to promote continuity of care and ensure regulatory compliance

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing program

  • Professional license as Registered Nurse in state of WV (or license/transfer eligible)

  • Minimum of one (1) year hands on nursing experience, one (1) year management experience

  • Competent in nursing systems, processes and skills

  • Proficient with computers; prefer experience with Point Click Care (PCC) and Microsoft Office
