The successful candidate for this position will have:

  • license registered nurse (RN) in the State of Missouri;
  • proven experience in a skilled nursing home environment with at least one year of successful experience as a Director of Nursing (DON);
  • excellent knowledge of federal and state survey process;
  • excellent work history in the long-term care industry;
  • commitment to team-oriented outcomes and quality care; and
  • excellent oral and written communication skills.

SUMMARY: Responsible for the leadership and management of a team of claim professionals with the accountability to investigate, evaluate and resolve claims or lawsuits of the most severe and complex nature and specialty line/program or risk of significant value to the organization. Typically responsible for managing aggregate reserves up to and exceeding $50 million and exposures $2 million-$20 million. Develops unit and departmental strategic plans and objectives in accordance with Division strategic plans and objectives. Responsible for the development, coaching, training and mentoring of individual team members. Contact with external customers which involves maintaining, developing and influencing relationships with major customers or key individuals. Responsible for strategic and tactical planning of the department and the management of associates including performance management, salary planning and administration, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions. 2. Responsible for the management and measurement of individual performance and team operational results, including customer service, indemnity and expense outcomes and strategic alignment with Division goals and objectives. 4. Responsible for contact with external customers which may include the management of large accounts involving maintaining, developing and influencing relationships with major customers and/or program managers. 5. Manages the handling and resolution of all claims within area of responsibility and authority. Manages reserve process to ensure reserve adequacy. Approves claim reserves and payments within authority and as necessary. 6. Provides leadership in understanding, and interpreting industry data and trends for a broad range of audience. 7. Develops department and unit strategic and tactical objectives. Assists senior management in development of strategic objectives. 8. Performs other related duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education: High School Diploma or GED required. College degree preferred. Completion of general insurance courses, such as IIA, AEI and/or CPCU preferred. Leadership/management classes and/or insurance technical classes preferred. Licenses/Designations: N/A Experience: Minimum of ten years insurance claims experience, including a minimum of 2 years prior claims management experience. Proven experience handling and/or managing the most serious and complex claims and litigation is required. Knowledge: Requires superior knowledge of the General Agency system, state insurance department regulation, unfair claim handling regulations, and tort law. Multi-line, multi-jurisdictional, and E&S experience preferred. Knowledge of underwriting polices. Understanding in accounting practices, concepts, techniques and coverage. Knowledge in reinsurance principles and statistics. General understanding of legal, actuarial, financial, sales, underwriting and claims policies and practices as they relate to the reinsurance function. This position may require specific expert skill/knowledge in insurance lines such as Medical Liability, Lawyers Errors and Omissions, Construction, Directors and Officers, EPLI and other specialty lines/risks.
