Overview:

The Director of Nursing (DON) for Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation at Chelsea Retirement Community plays a pivotal role in overseeing the nursing department's operations, ensuring high-quality care delivery, and promoting a culture of excellence within our community. This position is responsible for coordinating and supervising the nursing department, developing and implementing policies and procedures, and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to optimize resident outcomes.

What you'll do

Leadership and Management:

  • Provide strong leadership to the nursing team, fostering a positive work environment and promoting professional growth and development.

  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve organizational goals and objectives related to nursing care. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and standards of practice in nursing.

  • Ensure Total Quality Management (TQM) is part of everyday operations.

  • Partner with the Administrator on surveys made by authorized government agencies.

Clinical Oversight:

  • Oversee the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for residents.

  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of care provided, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

  • Development and maintenance of nursing service objectives, standards of practice, nursing policy, and procedures manuals, and written job descriptions for each level of personnel.

  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop individualized care plans and ensure continuity of care.

  • Develop methods of coordination of nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents total regimen of care.

Staffing and Training:

  • Recruit, hire, and train nursing team members, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet resident needs.

  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any performance issues in a timely manner.

  • Facilitate ongoing education and training programs.

  • Work in partnership with Human Resources on recruitment, retention, and employee relations.

  • Delegate to supervisory staff the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties.

Quality Assurance and Compliance:

  • Implement quality assurance programs.

  • Conduct regular audits and assessments.

  • Participate in risk management activities and implement strategies to mitigate risks related to nursing care.

  • Collaborate with Quality & Education department in developing and implementing updates, and changes in policies and procedures in nursing area.

Communication and Collaboration:

  • Serve as a liaison between the nursing department, administration, and other departments within the community.

  • Communicate effectively with residents, families, and healthcare providers to address concerns, answer questions, and ensure a high level of satisfaction.

  • Foster collaborative relationships with external stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies, accrediting bodies, and community resources.

What it takes

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the State of Michigan.

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressive nursing leadership experience, preferrable in a skilled nursing or rehabilitation setting.

  • CPR certification and other relevant certifications/licenses as required by state regulations.

  • Strong clinical knowledge and expertise in geriatric and rehabilitation nursing.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate a diverse team of healthcare professionals.

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in nursing care.
