Under supervision of the Vice President of Student Services, oversee the daily operations of the Mental Health and Wellness Programs on campus; provide personal and crisis counseling to students; prepare and monitor the program budgets; collaborate with and provide referrals to mental health partners and other community agencies as necessary; coordinate education and outreach activities; provide materials related to mental health and wellness for students; and perform related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic and socio-economic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff.

  • A Master's degree in counseling, rehabilitation counseling, clinical psychology, counseling psychology, guidance counseling, educational counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy or marriage, family, and child counseling or another closely related field;

  • A current California license in a mental health field such as a Psychologist (PhD), Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT); a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) or a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP), or a closely related field. FRC does not pay for supervision, licensure/renewal fees and /or personal malpractice insurance.

  • At least one year of counseling experience.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working in an educational setting

  • Counseling experience in higher education

  • Experience managing a program or department

Essential Duties

The following duties are typical of those performed by employees in this job title; however, employees may perform other related duties, and not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each employee in the job title.

  • Provides personal and crisis counseling to a diverse student body

  • Performs evaluation/intake processes to identify student needs and develop treatment plans

  • Works with community service providers for referrals, collaboration, and educational activities

  • Communicates with parents of minors and students at risk

  • Conducts crisis interventions and safety interventions

  • In collaboration with the Director of Student Success Programs, oversees the daily operations of the Wellness and Success Center

  • Ensures reports are completed on time and manages the department's budget in collaboration with the Program Staff Specialist

  • Coordinates education and outreach activities and classroom presentations focused on mental health and wellness topics such as coping with anxiety, depression, avoiding sexual assault, substance abuse, and suicide awareness and prevention

  • Develops and foster relationships with faculty and staff through various avenues such as attending faculty-run meetings, Division meetings, coaches meetings, etc.

  • Participates in shared governance committees including Safety Committee, Student Intervention, Student Services Council and Student Incident Team

  • Organizes and facilitates professional learning opportunities to staff on mental health and wellness topics

  • Collaborates with faculty and staff regarding student mental health issues and make appropriate referrals

  • Collaborates with community agencies and student support programs to support the overall needs of the campus

  • Ensures brochures, flyers, the website and other materials related to the center's activities and services are up to date

  • Responsible for program planning and direction

  • Supervises staff including student employees and Peer Educators

  • Other related duties as assigned
