Position Overview

PNC Financial Services Group is seeking an experienced leader to manage external communications in support of the company's financial results, proactive media, and strategic initiatives. Reporting to the Senior Director of External Communications, the Director of Media and Financial Communications will help share the company's story with key external audiences-emphasizing the steadfast and responsible way PNC has delivered for its stakeholders for nearly 160 years.

A key member of the External Communications Leadership team, this position will partner closely with Investor Relations, Government Relations and communications teams supporting Issues Management and Corporate Reputation, Regional Communications, Corporate Responsibility and PNC's three lines of business to help translate the company's strategy and financial results into clear messaging and actionable PR strategies.

The Director of Media and Financial Communications will oversee relationships with top-tier media and influencers, developing and executing an earned media strategy to help advance the company's business and reputation. This individual will also build and maintain strong relationships with strategic partners, industry groups, trade associations, and other organizations.

This position will also provide communications support for multiple PNC leaders, including the chief investment officer, chief investment strategist and the company's team of economists, generating high-value earned media appearances and thought leadership opportunities to position them as industry leaders.

The Director of Media and Financial Communications will also lead PNC's financial communications practice, managing external communications in support of PNC's quarterly earnings, annual report, annual meeting, and other financial and/or corporate disclosures.

This in-office position is ideally based in Pittsburgh, PA or Charlotte, NC. Candidates may also be considered in other cities with PNC corporate offices.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and manage executive visibility programs for PNC's chief investment officer, chief investment strategist and team of economists, including top-tier media opportunities, speaking engagements and visibility in digital channels.

  • Working alongside the Senior Director of External Communications, establish and maintain high-level contacts with a wide variety of stakeholders, including industry groups, consumer groups, trade associations, strategic partners and other organizations.

  • Serve as company spokesperson and coordinate company response for media inquiries related to economic trends, industry developments and PNC's financial performance.

  • In partnership with Marketing and Communications leaders, build and manage 360 communications plans in support of major corporate initiatives and announcements.

  • Work with leaders in Investor Relations to continuously refine PNC's financial narrative and ensure alignment across the enterprise.

  • Create financial press releases and content in support of PNC's annual report, annual meeting, quarterly earnings materials and other financial and/or corporate disclosures.

  • Partner with the Regional Communications team to create media opportunities for PNC economists and other public-facing executives in local markets.

  • Build a high-performance environment and implement a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops, and motivates the team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vision/values/business strategy, and managing succession and development planning for the team.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 12 years of relevant experience required, advanced degree preferred.

  • Significant media relations experience within the financial sector, preferably at a large bank.

  • Deep knowledge of economic and banking industry trends and business fundamentals.

  • Successful track record managing large-scale communications projects with sensitive information flows and multiple stakeholders. Experience managing communications in support of M&A activity a plus.

  • Understanding of financial reporting and corporate earnings processes and a high comfort level summarizing and discussing financial results with members of the media.

  • Strong and versatile writing skills spanning both short-form content (social posts, media statements) and long-form content (executive scripts, letters).

  • A progressive approach to communications, with an appetite to embrace social media and other channels to engage with customers and key stakeholders in the most relevant places.

  • Strong executive presence and the ability to present to leadership with gravitas.

  • A reputation for being collaborative, enthusiastic, humble, agile, intellectually curious and cool under pressure.

Job Description

  • Serves as the primary advisor on the development and execution of communications strategies in support of strategic priorities for the function and PNC.

  • Oversees the implementation of strategic initiatives, communication strategies, including research, content development and effectiveness measures.

  • Leads in the resolution of issues, while establishing a relationship as a trusted advisor to business leaders on communications strategies and business initiatives. Establishes supporting relationships across business lines and support areas to ensure a collaborative business support strategy.

  • Leverages data-driven insights to provide consultation to business leadership, influencing outcomes and decisions to best support the business strategy.

  • Serves as a mentor to the teams, providing coaching, assisting in developing key competencies in team members. Implements and oversees activities including coordination with legal, compliance, finance, risk, and other key partners. Leads partnership with agencies, third parties and internal business partners to coordinate development and execution of programs/initiatives.
