Your responsibilitiesJOB SUMMARYThe Director of Factory Engineering will report to the Vice President Manufacturing and is responsible for directing and executing all the technical strategy for the company including all research and development, new product development and sustaining initiatives for the manufacturing facility. This position will manage all engineering departments associated with this effort and also take an active role in driving development projects, value engineering and innovation initiatives.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONSAccountability Objective

  • Manages all engineering departments and take an active role in driving development projects, value engineering and innovation initiatives to ensure consistent evaluation and documentation of processes, adequate configuration and preventative maintenance of systems and equipment, and innovative direction to reduce cost and improve sustainability.

Departmental Leadership and Staff Development

  • Lead and direct Engineering, Process Development and Maintenance Departments in effective performance while maximizing cost efficiencies, process improvements and on-time delivery.

  • Develop Training Plan for Staff to ensure adequate training of all new and existing employees to maximum performance.

  • Maintain weekly Accountability Meetings with subordinates. Prepare/deliver Performance Evaluations as required to promote accountability and efficiency oversee and educate subordinates as it relates regulatory compliance and company policies.

Engineering/Maintenance Improvement/Innovation Process Design and Development

  • Manage the process of draft and design layout of equipment, materials and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency.

  • Investigates and diagnoses causes of breakdowns and develops programs and solutions to reduce/eliminate future occurrences.

  • Coordinate with the production department on the scheduling of down times for repair and maintenance of equipment.

  • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs to improve reliability.

  • Evaluates current processes and develop, implement and maintain all changes with consideration of long term Lean Production system design and techniques.

  • Drives processes development to optimize efficient process flow, reduce process or product variability, improve process capability and improve employee safety.

Departmental Efficiencies

  • Develops and maintains critical departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI).

  • Coordinates maintenance, engineering and process development initiatives to ensure increased efficiencies.

  • Coordinates preventative and predictable maintenance activities as it relates to production enhancements.

  • Ensures effective interdepartmental relationships to meet the assigned goals of the organization.

Your profile

  • Eight or more years of experience in the job offered or eight years of experience supervising manufacturing engineering.

  • Possess working knowledge of sheet metal design and assembly manufacturing methods, injection molded plastic design and manufacturing techniques preferred.

  • Demonstrated pattern of initiative and leadership required.

  • Demonstrated experience working in a high mix, low volume vertically integrated facility preferred.

  • Demonstrated record of successfully directing full scale Industrial engineering tasks to maximize production efficiency and profitability.

  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and decision-making ability.

  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and well-developed written and verbal communication skills.

  • Possess a record of successful experience in management of engineering projects that has produced successful documented results.

Interfaces with Product Engineering, Logistics, Operations, Maintenance, Facilities, Opex, Quality, and vendors.ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS * Manage and coach manufacturing engineering team members * Contribute towards the development of the Capital Budget Process including forecast and monthly spend against forecast * Lead research, design and development of optimal, cost-effective processes and methods in accordance with specifications and quality standards using LEAN principles. * Support SSQDC and participate in Rapid Improvement Events * Completes ADP updates and approval by regular dead-lines * Manage team conducting time studies of production to develop standard work for production cells and to create and maintain SOPs. * Manage Team Process Engineering Change Orders (ECO's) for new and improved products * Monitor quality discrepancies, identify trends and investigate quality problems and implement corrective actions * Provide technical support/solutions to manufacturing processes * Drive cost reduction and optimal quality * Serves as Project Champion for large, complex projects * Provides guidance and instruction to engineers, technicians and other professionals as needed * Manage the development and maintenance of SOP's and Standard Work for assigned operations * Manage Budget for tooling and fixtures needed in assigned department * Resolve complex quality issues including field complaints, warranty issues and defective parts * Work with Procurement to conduct make/buy analysis for all new parts * Drive continuous improvement efforts within the department * Prepare cost estimates for Accounting * Perform special projects and other duties as assigned Your profile * Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field required * Master's degree in Engineering or related field preferred * 5-8 years' of engineering management experience in a manufacturing environment required * Strong knowledge of fabrication and machining required * PMP Certification preferred * Demonstrated ability to develop and meet project schedules; along with contingency plans * Demonstrated ability to lead others.
